Got walloped in the end. Afghans hit the target in 18 overs and always looked comfortable.

aye, properly skittled after the rain break, they must have went for pints or something.

Ridiculous few overs. You do have to wonder what the leadership is like around the team. They seem to be very fragile, which unfortunately tends to be a trait in Irish sport.

I get butterflies in my stomach thinking of them having to face Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad on the first morning of a Lords Test Match.

Read some accounts that the game probably shouldn't have restarted, conditions weren't exactly playable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Big effort from Ireland today but the total was too high to chase down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Ireland 142-1 after 25 ovs. Chasing 293 to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭axe2grind

    Another collapse :( From 206-2 to 233-8
    Still need 60

It's just collapse after collapse at the moment. Tough time to be an Ireland fan

Still, we seem to be performing better in the four-day game at the moment, and victory in the Intercontinental Cup tie would all but secure Test status.

Afghanistan set for another massive total here. 229/3 after 39 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

303/6 after 47. 101 for the captain. Grim stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Bowled them out with the last ball of the over 338 all out. Sterling with six wickets.

Have to fear it's a damage limitation exercise from the batsmen now

Ireland 105/0 in reply after 16 ovs. Sterling and Joyce both 49

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    151/1 after 25. Sterling 76no

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Sterling out on 95. Such a pity. What a 200th international appearance for him tho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Porterfield was out for 45 and now the standard collapse is underway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

265/5 after 41. Thompson on 33 off 18, hit four 4's in a row earlier and offers some slim hope for Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Wilson out 278/6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

All over 278/8. Not much batting outside the top 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

301 all out in 47 overs. Could have a chance but needed sterling to make about 130 i reckon.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

It's annoying how we are still getting so close, if only one other person would stand up batting or we had a decent bowler or Rashid had an off day.

It's becoming a habit that is not boding well for the future.
