No, their spice range is quite limited. They sometimes have spices on special offer, but they are usually spice blends. You'd have to go to Dunnes / Tesco or an Asian food shop.

Have tried and really enjoyed their little tubs of garlic butter. 100 times nicer to make your own garlic bread than buy the frozen shyte.

Is it genuine butter, or 'spread'?

It's spread. It's okay for what it is but once I got it and it was off.

The one I've got here from Aldi is spread, but does the job perfectly.

Their bake at home ciabatta makes amazing garlic bread.

My favourite is the plain naan breads, grill both sides a little, bit of garlic butter, little mozzarella and back under the grill till the cheese melts.

Re: the talk about the Walls Honest Chips on the previous pages.

I have recently started purchasing the packets of Aldi's microwavable salad potatoes (they are in a see-through packet and have a green logo. Cost is about €0.70 IIRC) to make "chipper" chips. The feedback I have received has been fantastic and with some salt and vinegar they are as close to chipper chips as you can get without frying IMO.

    The method is as follows:

    - Put two packets of microwaveable salad potatoes into the microwave for 10 minutes

    - Upon completion, cut a large slit in both bags and leave to cool for a couple of minutes

    - Pre-heat the over at 200

    - Slice the potatoes into a chip shape

    - Spray your oven tray with Frylight (I always use olive oil flavour) and then place your "chips" onto the oven tray. There is 400g per packet so you should end up with a full, packed oven tray and needing to put the last few on top of the others.

    - Spray the chips with Frylight and put into the oven for around 20-25 minutes on 200, checking regularly from 15 minutes onwards
    - Serve with plenty of salt and vinegar and enjoy! They should go lovely and crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside.

For me, they are so similar to chipper chips and at around €1.40 for 800g you can't go too far wrong!

Try and let me know what you think :)

Pretty sure this is the way that Slimming World have been making chips since forever. IMO they're not like chipper chips (how could they be, theres next to no oil) but they are delicious and a firm fave in our house.

^ Be great in the Airfryer I'd say - I'd guess 6 mims, shake, then 6 mins would do them.

My first thought aswell. Twice as many from the chipper for that money, and chipper chips are amazing a day later reheated in the airfryer if you only get through half.
+1, I got a load of lunchtime special deals from the chipper near me to be eaten over several days, great value and giving them business in this tough time. I could pay online and collect, nobody in the place so he seemed very pleased for the business. Reheats extremely well, sometimes I prefer them when reheated than when first out of the chipper. Southern fried chicken does really well too.

I'm constantly on the lookout for new vegetarian options for Mrs McMurphy, as we always feel a touch of guilt when tucking into our new and tasty meat based dishes.

Now I know they're not new - new, because I've seen these for probably a month or so at this stage, but never actually bought them until Friday past, but I picked up a box of the specially selected (don't recall the exact name of them) firecracker vegetable parcels (or something similarly named) from the freezer.

They're, (for want of a better description) a bit like a giant sized dim sum, but with a crispy based filo style pastry on the outside, and jam packed with a fairly spicy vegetables filling.

She cut me off a slice on Friday evening and I was very impressed, definitely had a good kick to them, they'd go well with a baked potato or a nice salad with pitta etc.

Just to add, they're also vegan friendly, not just vegetarian friendly for any vegans reading this.

But in the spirit of the title of the thread, in Aldi and I definitely recommend them.

The hot cross pudding I bought recently was lovely. Just heat it up for under a minute in the microwave. Think it was only a special for Easter.

I'l be honest, I would never have thought of using salad potatoes to make chips. I thought chips need floury potatoes, while salad potatoes are supposed to be waxy?
But I'll give it a try in the airfryer and report back! :)

Chippers often use Maris Pipers. I adore fried new potatoes which have been boiled. so would definitely boil/steam them first.

Noticed a lager called Kortenhoef recently and tried it out. Found it to be very nice. Comes in plastic wrapped 8 packs for just under 8 euro. Very good value in my opinion.

I raised the Walls Honest Chips. Yes they are nice and yes they are expensive!

I decided to try recreate them myself with Frytex. (I know, not a product Aldi carry)

Meh, they were OK. I dry out the chips first by putting them on for 5 mins in the air fryer on their own and then added a few chunks of Frytex. Smelled similar but not as good a result.

First they came for the socialists...

Had their new chicken thigh fillets done with spicy jalapeno marinade for dinner, they were fantastic btw, highly recommend them.

Had them with rice done in the instant pot and some taco beans.

Those chicken thigh fillets are great for curries and the like. I hate deboning thighs so its handy to have them filleted. One thing though- in Aldi they are 3.99 for 400g whereas the same thing in Lidl is 3.25 for 425g. Was shaking my head when I copped that last week, yet more evidence of Aldi price creep.

Not a recommend but my local Aldi ran out of there dish washer tablets for last week or so, normally €1.70, then today they had in stock echo friendly ones so brought these instead as ran out, €3.99!

Never copped that, but tbh I really only use Lidl for their bottles of prosecco (the ones in the silver foil wrapping with the mushroom style cork) as my wife swears by if over any and all others on the Irish market, so will definitely be keeping an eye out for the meat offers in future.

I buy thighs regularly, they're much more tasty and moist than the breast imo.

Same in my local Aldi. It's been out of stock for last 2 weeks at least.
Their Magnum Premium tablets are same price per tablet as Finish Quantum Ultimate on special offer in Dunnes. Bought the Finish ones instead.
