I notice the Irish Vintage Cheddar in the black wrapper is going through another waxy phase. For some months after a longish absence, it had been lovely and crumbly. You could tell it was different from the feel of the pack. The crumbly one seemed to be less regularly cut and you could often feel crumbs inside. It would be interesting to know why this happens. Maybe Aldi drops the product when not happy with it and then after a few months the supplier reverts to an inferior product.

The Spuddy's cheese and onion crisps disappeared from my local shop a few weeks ago and the shelf barcode is gone. To my taste the quality went from better than Tayto to slightly worse some time ago. All they're stocking now are the mixed flavours. I understand both Spuddy's and Tayto are by the same manufacturer and I suspect they've withdrawn the Spuddy's C & O because they were underming Tayto sales.

I just stopped buying this stuff as the waxiness of it is awful. It's just tasteless and rubbery.

It's nothing new but I've been enjoying this "proper" ham for ages. Simple, no frills but the real deal.

Came across it first in France and couldn't believe it was available in Aldi here as a standard product.

Been buying it for years, great stuff for 1.99

I think this issue with the cheese was talked about on this thread a couple of months ago, if you do a search of the thread for cheese it should come up. If I remember correctly some poster said it could be to do with the cows not eating fresh grass in the winter, instead they are in sheds eating hay and that changes the texture of the cheese produced from their milk.

I bought a foil tray of Bombay cauliflower (might not have been called that exactly) which was cauliflower florets marinated in a curry based sauce.

10mins in the oven this evening, came out not bad at all. Will definitely be having again at some point.

It’s something I never notice with the Lidl Mature Cheddar in the black wrapper. Must keep an eye on it this summer but it’s still crumbly so far.

Had those last week. They're decent. Good side dish for a bit of variety.

Is the Bramwells curry powder tin comparable to the McDonnells one? Not expecting an exact match but whether its in the same ballpark.
I got the Bramwells after seeing that post (I also got Dunnes own brand by accident thinking it was McDonnells one), and had it tonight, I wasn't expecting the sweet taste that I got initially (got used to it), but i thought it was nice :)

I haven't tried any of those curry powders before, so I can't compare the Lidl, Dunnes, McDonnells etc..

But am happy I got it :)

    No they're fresh.

    These are really good.
Plenty of chilli kick goes great with the burger mince.

    A non-recommendation

While this isn’t a Aldi-own brand product, I don’t recommend the Mackies of Scotland mature cheddar and onion crisps (from the specials aisle).

    Flavour-wise they’re quite bland; texture-wise they’re like styrofoam

That's always my response to complaints about the Aldi cheddar, too - "get the Lidl one!"

The new lamb kofta skewers are excellent. I just had two for lunch with yoghurt, peanut rayu and a massive salad. Highly recommend.

The off cuts of ham. It's a kilo of meat for €1.99, OK yer not going to serve it up as a Sunday roast but it's A1 for sambos.

    Aldi's Greysons Gin.
    Award-winning and less than $15 a bottle.
    And it's excellent.
It was recommended to me ages ago by a mixologist at a fancy cocktail bar.

Mackie's always seem to have interesting-sounding flavours, like haggis, but the crisps themselves

A man of great taste if he likes the Aldi gin.;)

In fairness, good market awareness from our corporate overlords!

I got this Pinot Grigio in Aldi the other day, and I have to say it is gorgeous.

Crisp, light and very (too very) drinkable.

    A bargain at €7.99

yeah I used to just cut out a dot of mold on bread but I had bad bacteria in my gut last year so I didnt want to risk that returning.

Still cant believe a bag of fresh ginger had mold on it 3 days after being bought. Ive stored ginger in the veg drawer of the fridge before and forgotten about it for 2 or 3 weeks and it didnt have mold on it.

We always keep ginger and garlic outside the fridge - we keep loads of both - if you have to keep in the fridge - wrap up in paper instead of in plastic bags

I picked up a bag of chicken thigh bites, they're supposedly spicy, but I'll report back later after I've sampled a few.

I wonder if the summer food range is arriving in now? Hopefully the fish burgers might be back as I think they were part of that seasonal range (not sure why they would not be year round but...:()

think those (chicken thigh bites) were the same as the ones I was on about a page back, but I got the teriyaki ones.I hope these ones are crispier for you, let me know! the texture of ours was strange.....

I haven't opened the pack yet, but from the feel of them I'd say they're more a chicken Nugget sized snack. Hoping they don't disappoint.

I will do mine in the air fryer, so they should come out fairly crispy, unfortunately it won't be tonight though, as dinners already been sorted (baby back ribs)

    Most probably tomorrow.

Most of Aldi's frozen vegetarian ready meals and burgers are reduced by €1-€1.50 at the moment. I presume it's nationwide as they have proper SELs.

They ciabatta with olives is beautiful , it’s with the bread - one you pop into the oven for 12 mins .

We had it with the goat cheese melt in the earthen ware pots- Damn those pots—// I just can’t not put one in the trolley and this bread only adds to the want !
