    Wimbledon's Derby semis: live reporting

BY JIM CREMIN AT WIMBLEDON 6:55PM 20 JUN 2015

    Weather: Muggy, heavy showers

    Going: normal (for the Derby)
    No further changes at Wimbledon

Eliminated semi-finalists may take part in the Derby Invitation.

Wimbledon finalise the Derby final supporting card on Monday.

    William Hill Derby 1st semi
1 Farloe Blitz trap 2 4.72 fast away, always led, rails, wide fourth 28.24sec
2 Rio Quattro trap 1 4.89, length and a half, slow away, rails, ran on
3 Eden The Kid trap 3 4.89 neck, slow away, crowded third. kept on

4th Diego Flight (bumped first, finished well)
    5th Geelo Vegas (second up)
6th Roxholme Ted (badly bumped first)

Farloe Blitz flew out, and put this straight to bed. Owne McKenna's dog remains unbeaten in the Derby, and deservedly so. Rio Quattro, after a slow start, plugged on for second, closing on the run in. Puppy Eden The Kid, crowded down the back, held off kennelmate Diego Flight to qualify. The week's rest may be to his advantage. Geelo Vegas had turned second but really needed to bounce out clear in this company, and eventually weakened Roxholme Ted has collided with Diego Flight at the bend.

    2nd semi
1 Making Paper trap 2 4.83 fast away, always led 28.33sec
2 Millwards Davy trap 3 4.94 three and a quarter, crowded early, ran on
3 Tynwald Bish trap 5 4.86 early pace

4th Paradise Maverik (very slow away, crowded third)
5th Lenson Sanchez (crowded early, first and third)
6th Viking Jack (very slow away)

This was a similar story to the first semi, but the rank outsider this time bounced out clear for Diane Henry, race over. Millwards Davy has shown real guts throughout and battled on for second after early crowding. Tynwald Bish went up fast, turning second, but held on for third. Pat Buckley's pair went out, crowding each other at the third after Lenson Sanchez got baulked early. Viking Jack walked out.

Saturday's £250,000 to the winner William Hill Derby final

    1 Rio Quattro 4-1

Would you say finalist owners/connections would be flattening out the prize pool more evenly behind the scenes?. Im not sure what the payout structure is from 1st to 6th but id say 250k would be a good % of the whole race and 6th probably smaller than it should be. Nothing wrong with that they do it in poker quite a lot, its still played out as normal.

the big winners prize is being used as a promotion tool , so they have it that way

would be better spread out more throughout the competition
