    Are scumbags getting scummier?
Im a bit shocked after what just happened me.. I'm very hungover so I'm looking a bit worse for wear. I was running down to the Chinese across the road so I just flung on jeans and a hoody. Walking up the road I saw a group of 17-20 year old boys and girls on the opposite footpath, about fifteen of them on the way back from the match, and I heard "awwww man watch the staaaaate of the yooooke across the rooooad (obviously me as there was no one else there) I was fairly mortified but carried on walking a bit faster and that's when the abuse really started.. "ill give you money for new clothes you ****in skaaaaaank" "where ju get ur shoes u horrible bastaaaaard" "aww maaaan I wouldn't touch that thing if I was paaaaaid" and giggles in between...
I'd like to point out that although I'm not exactly a beauty queen, I'm not so ugly that it would inspire passers by to be shocked by my ugliness :D or so I liked to believe before now :D... I'd also like to point out that it was only boys saying all this and that I would also definitely not touch any of the scabby little freaks if I was paaaaaaid :D as much as I hate to admit it I was absolutely terrified to leave the Chinese incase I met them again.
Anyway, what I'd like to know is what sort of woeful lives these poor bastards have lived so far that lead them to having absolutely no problem whatsoever verbally abusing a complete stranger that could have been anyone going through anything at all.. it scares me and I feel so sorry for them...and for me also, because I'm too hungover to be dealing with this uncalled for battering of my self esteem haha :) any similar stories?

If they are looking for fight you should just ignore them. Telling them to f##k off is going to get a fight. You ain't taking on a large group on your own.

If you do not know them then their opinion is worthless and you should just forget it.

And yes the scumbags are getting worse.

I'm sorry but that really made me laugh OP! I do feel bad for you though and I definitely would have been hiding in the Chinese too! They are getting scummier all right. Had a girl around 17 or so walk right out in front of my car today. Had to slam on the brakes. She then proceeded to STROLL as slowly as she possibly could across the road, all the while staring in the windscreen at me and giving me really freaky evil eyes. She seemed to think I was the one in her way. I was so tempted to run the little so and so over!

That sorta carry on says more about them than it does about you. They have a bright future ahead of them (sarcasm) if they don't snap out of it.

Any similar stories I have are of even younger scumbag kids being left to roam and damage/ steal whatever they want. Practically untouchable.

I wonder are they all bad or is just a few bad apples in the crowd. I'm sure in a group of 15 or 16 some of them are bound to have respectable parents.

If my teenagers called after someone I wouldn't be responsible for my actions and they know it. Anyway unless she was stark naked they wouldn't even notice what anyone was wearing.

I know it wasn't terrible abuse but still it was enough to frighten op

What you described is kind of a recurring theme.

Pretty much after 7 p.m the little hooligans start to congregate for their "socialising" though they're starting to get even more brazen during daylight hours as the afternoon turns to the evening.

It's typical that they're so brave when in a large group and were spoiling for a fight. You absolutely made the right choice not to confront them as in the very least you'd get robbed and probably worse. It's important to note that they have absolutely no inhibitions regarding what they do to others as long as they get a "laugh" at another's expense.

If someone does miraculously manage to confront a more cowardly group of them (usually the smaller packs where they're all quite short) they tend to run off to the house of one of their parents who refuse to believe that their little "angel" and friends were doing anything wrong and that you're simply bullying them and should leave them alone or they'll call the guards on you (your word against theres)!

Also if the Garda actually do manage to do anything about it, normally for something like them breaking windows etc... they normally get at most a slap on the wrist with something along the lines of very short community services or a suspended sentence with the usual "I'm sure you're a good little boy, you just fell in with the wrong crowd", "You're doing a course and trying to turn your life around so I'll give you this chance to change your ways", "He's recovering from an early alcohol problem, don't ruin his life by sending him to prison"... yada, yada... I'd probably get flak from the lefties due to my lack of empathy with this "misunderstood section of society" but it boils my blood to think my tax money is been used to support these outstanding members of society.

There you have it. The problem is because of:
    -Parents.
-A very weak justice system with regards to antisocial behaviour.

Therefore the solution should follow it as such:
-Punish the parents for the actions of their little angels...e.g. a cut in their social welfare or other services provided by society. No surprise that they'd keep a tighter leash on their out of control kids if this was the case.
-A zero tolerant approach to antisocial behaviour in the courts. No more suspended sentences or just community service. In the very least you'll receive a very large fine.
I'm sorry but that really made me laugh OP! I do feel bad for you though and I definitely would have been hiding in the Chinese too! They are getting scummier all right. She seemed to think I was the one in her way. I was so tempted to run the little so and so over!

I saw something like this happen on the Ennis road last year. Some punk deliberately waited till the lights turn from red to green before crossing over at a snail's pace for the "laughs". The lead vehicles just barely managed to slam on the brakes and he seemed to get a rise from the blaring of horns at him.

They're not getting scummier, they've always been like this! It's their upbringing, my mates and I never did any of this sort of behaviour.

Just ignore these type of scumbags OP.
    They feed on peoples reaction.
Hope you enjoyed your Chinese anyway and the hangover is gone...:D

Not only did myself and my friends never do anything like this,I can honestly hand on heart say that we would straight away cut any association with someone if they ever said anything like this to a stranger... If someone in my company did something like this I'd cringe to death. I'd rather be in the situation I was in today than be a member of the group across the road.

Female friend of mine got some really nasty comments from a group of girls in a suburban supermarket. They were barking at her and calling her a dog. She's a bit of a looker so definitely not because of how she looked that's for sure (not that it would be excusable)

This woman is as hard as nails and verbally tore them apart, then called security and ensured they got barred from the shopping centre.

They were crying and apologising by the time she was done with them.

Also saw a bunch of lads mocking this guy who looked like real life version of Nidge. He walked slowly towards them and said something and they just legged it.

Sometimes they just pick on the wrong person.

Unfortunately I lack "comeback" skills even on a good day, let alone hungover. It's always an hour later when I've thought of a million great responses :D

Does anyone else remember Ray Darcy having a similar experience a few years ago? He was in a take away and some little skank stuck her head in the door and called him an ugly c**t or something along those lines. He was a bit shaken and discussed it on today fm the next day.
Also to OP, society in general is becoming more permissive of this behaviour. Children are given no boundaries or discipline from a young age and people wonder why they turn out like this. Usually their parents were teens when they had them and have just leeched off the social system since. It's just rinse and repeat for the next generation of scumbags then. Imagine what their kids will be like in ten years, shudder.....
A lot to be said for severe punishments in certain countries. For instance if one of those drain rats had their tongues cut from their heads maybe they'd all have pause for thought. Or else just cull the lot of them.

Yeah remember that. It was of course totally out of order but Ray is arguably the most self obsessed man on this planet. He didnt deserve the abuse but boy would he milk the situation for every inch of sympathy he could get.

I'm surprised the "ate her kelleeeeee kick her inta da ......." video hasn't been linked so we can have a good example of the current rate of backwards evolution.

I know, Now that I read over this again today it doesn't seem half as bad to me as it did yesterday haha :) ..but what really got to me the most, funnily enough, was the word "skank". I've never even used it myself its such a harsh word so when I heard myself being called one by a screaming "ung'fellaaa" it chilled me...sticks and stones, eh? :) I wonder what its like to be a teenager growing up in the company of people like this..not much fun I'd say :(

A group of teens were harassing people on a bus I was on, to the point of talking about rape, so I used my phone to take a picture of the one that was just "going along" and told him I was uploading it to Buseireann, the garda stations in the town where they got on and the town where they got off, and to rape crisis centers, schools, and women's shelters throughout the region, and reporting them for threatening violence. The one I took the picture of was nearly in tears by the time they got off the bus, not talking to his "friends" anymore, and the rest of them had settled down.

That said, I was on a bus, with a driver and other passengers to back me up; on my own against 15, I would have just ignored and got out of there. As others have said, you never know who's just trolling (in which case the best reaction is to ignore, since what they crave is reaction and attention) and who's violent.

How long until someone blames their upbringing and how they are only poor little victims of their circumstances and other such nonsense?

We wonder why the country is so full of adult scumbag when kids are allowed get away with sh!t until they are 18.

I was out walking in the city around 7pm recently and these group of 8 little scumbags were pelting people with eggs. There were tourists who were genuinely shocked by what was going on.

I think these scumbags are getting worse. Only last Saturday evening I was sat in my house when I heard a load of shouting and screaming coming from outside King John's castle so I ran upstairs to find out what was going on when I looked out the window I saw a group of kids about 10-15 of them ranging in age from 8-15 with 2 girls on the ground beating the crap out of each other with a couple of boys laying in the boot at one of the girls one boy I would say was no older than 8 putting the boot into the girl. They only stopped briefly when a car came up the road trying to get through them so they all started banging on the car and shouting abuse at the driver till he drove on then the 2 girls were back at it again for a couple more minutes at this stage I had called the Gards they said that they will send someone around as soon as they can by this time they had all started running up Nicholas Street. About 20 minutes later a squad car came round so I went out and spoke to them all they said was there was nothing they could do as the victim hadn't made a complaint but they would be keeping an eye out for them.

It was just as well the castle was quite at the time and not many tourist around I feel sorry for the tourist that were around to witness that going on and what they must of thought of Limerick after seeing that. I am surprised that none of the staff from the castle or the pub across the road called the Gards as well. It shouldn't be aloud to carry on like that in the middle of Limericks main tourist area I see a lot of these scumbags hanging around the castle most evenings after it is closed up to no good. The Gards seem powerless to stop this sort of anti social behavior going on and the scumbags know this as well. So until more is done to stop things like that going on it only going to get worse.

The Guards have really messed up definitions of "emergency" and "urgent". I called 999 to report an assault & property damage, while it was happening, and I was told "999 is for emergencies only; call the local Garda station for non-emergencies". If someone being beaten does not warrant an immediate dispatch, what does?

    1) It IS the fault of their upbringing.
    2) That doesn't make them "poor little victims".

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 kernow

That is what I would of thought I don't know the number for Mayorstone garda station so I called 999 as I did think it warranted a emergency call seeing as someone was getting beaten up in a public area by a load of scumbag kids. Even when I was talking to the gard n the phone his attitude was like so what I will send someone whenever I can. There are 2 garda cameras on both ends of Nicholas Street when I went out to look to see where they had gone after I had made the call not one of them was pointing at where the fight was going on the one closest to the castle which would of seen it all start was pointing down at the Coca cola bike stand the other one is just above the the Polish shop was pointing down towards the City hall. I would of thought if something like that was going on then the first thing to do is put the camera on them and follow them as they ran off. There are also cameras on the castle which would of seen the whole lot as well but the gards that turned up had no intrest in checking those out as the castle was still open at the time the images from the castle cameras are fairly good I know as I used to work in there a couple of years back.

would never bother responding to this type. they're a waste of space.
ignoring them is the best response anything else could just draw things like that on you and that's not worth the hassle.

Advocating the use/threat of violence is against the rules here folks.

I've cleaned this forum up a bit, and didn't issue any warnings/bans for some of the posts. The issue highlighted here is an issue the world over, not just a Limerick issue so I'm going to lock this thread as I don't see it as a regional topic.
