Was in the city yesterday, visiting my folks, and heard the whistle of a steam train a few times. They mentioned that it had been quite active over the last few days. I can't see anything online about it though. Anybody got any information?

There were two steam trains in Limerick yesterday, locomotives 461 and 85 which belong to the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland. They are operating a 7 day tour of Ireland called the Emerald Isle Explorer.

The train arrived in from Galway with loco 461 and departed with loco 85 which had been stable in Limerick since Friday. 461 is due to depart Limerick light engine ( ie with no carriages) tomorrow at 10am although it will depart from the works area which means it wont be visible from the station but you would be able to see it if you were somewhere along the route between Limerick and Limerick Junction.
