I have a question for the smallbore Gallery shooters among us. Is the a benefit and if so what is it by putting a scope rail with say 20 MOA compared to 0 MOA on my 10/22 ?

I have 30 MOA rail that's part of my Dlask receiver, i.e. it's all one part.
Before that I used a 15MOA rial from Tactical Solutions.

Because of the way the barrel is held onto the receiver the barrel can have what is known as 'Barrel Droop' where the barrel hangs a little low/down. Because of this some scopes run out of down clicks and therefore cant zero the rifle at all.
Another reason for using MOA is to return the retical cross hair to as near the centre as possible.

The other trick is to use packing between the rail & receiver at the rear to get more clicks, between the 2 rear most screws. I would cut a 10mm/12mm strip off a beer/coke can and fold over 4/5 time to use as packing. BUT you will also need to deepen the rear holes of the rail a little to allow the screws to tighten up at the rear as well. OR you will strip the receiver threads when you tighten the screws up.

Also because I have loads of up clicks I can zero the scope at and shoot out to 200y with it. ;););)

    1) For gallery, CliveJ knows better than I.

    2) How far out do you want to shoot?

    3) How many total moa has your scope.

I only shoot gallery now and again. if you can dial all the distances you shoot, you might not need one.
But it does not hurt you if you want to reach out further, with a falcon optics 4-14x44 i can dial for 15 meters all the way to 260 meters with a 15 moa rail.

Off topic: Clive i like your zero stop, If you dial up past one revolution will the stop clear the bar ?

I only shoot gallery and new to the game, I have now zeroed the sight for 10,15,and 25 yrs there is little difference between the 25 and 50 m POA so I'm happy enough, I was just wondering if a moa rail would keep the adjustments closer together , I didn't want to go past a full revolution on the dial just wouldn't work when firing from different distances, wouldn't be long before you messed up dialling up or down.
