George costigan as Bob in Rita, sue and Bob too. He brought a level of sophistication to the role that not many could, possibly with the exception of Daniel day Lewis.

Brad Pitt - One Punch Mickey (Snatch)
    Alan Ford - Bricktop (Snatch)

    Tom Hardy - Bronson
    David Jason - Del Boy
    Kate Segal - Gemma Teller
And like someone said already, James Gandolfini - Tony Soprano.
It's impossible to imagine any of those characters being played by anyone else.

Also, Al Pacino played Shylock excellently in the tv/movie version of The Merchant of Venice. He always gets slack for over acting but it works with Shakespeare.

Also #2 How could I forget, Marlon Brando as Vito "The Godfather" Corleone. Spectacular performance..

Brad Pitts "pikey" accent is unbelievably good. Like Turkish said, "It's not English. It's not Irish. It's just, well... it's just pikey".

I heard that too. It would go a good way on explaining how he perfected the accent but it's hard to imagine Brad Pitt on a halting site...

So born to play the role that no one knows the guys name, and yet its possibly the single most famous movie character of all time.

Mark Hamill? I'm fairly sure that's well known.

My instant thought when seeing this thread has to be Benicio Del Toro in both Che films. Absolutely inspired.
