Hi all, hope someone has an insight,

Planning on a trip to Inisbofin for a few days next week and will need to park in Cleggan. I've heard that the village is plagued with parking problems in the public areas, but that there are a couple of private car parks.

We'll go the car-park option. My question is really: how busy are the car parks, how many are there, what are the locations, and how near to the pier are they?

Also, if possible, who would be the contact regarding leaving it there and paying?

A number of people in the village and adjacent to the pier ( within 5 min walk) provide parking in their back gardens @ €3 per night last time I was there (2014). They collect the charge on drive in - not sure about public liability - I expect you park at your own risk, but the times I've used these "unofficial " car parks I've never had any problems, nor has there been any difficulty in finding a space, just get there in good time for the ferry and you should be able to find a space no problem. I think the problems arise when people park in areas obstructing access to the pier or private property. Roadside parking is scarce/ non existent but I heard that a public car park was planned - may be done by now.

The Council owned new car park looks to be finished but was not open this week when I passed.

My guess is that it won't be open until the county council have passed by-laws about parking in Cleggan - consultation period for this runs until 24 July. (ref: http://www.galway.ie/en/media/Byelaws%20Cleggan%20Carpark%20Advert%20-%20May%202015.pdf)

Local politicians seem to think that a shuttle bus from the carpark to the ferry is necessary: https://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2014-10-21a.1516

OP the private parks are fine. Just hand over your E3 when you go in.

    Yep. No hassle.

For anyone else wondering, there are two very obvious €3/day car parks right in the village, and one a bit past it (I believe). One was full (the one opposite the pier entry) but the other about 100m back wasn't.

The council car park looked like it was in use when we were on our way back -- the barriers to entry were down -- but there were only two vehicles in it, so maybe not. It's a longer walk to the pier than the others, but a bus would only be desirable for days when it's lashing.
