Today (June 30th) is International Asteroid Day: http://www.asteroidday.org/

It's the anniversary of the Tunguska event in 1908 which was most likely a near-miss or a decent sized object which vaporized in the atmosphere.

A scientist on the radio this morning was pleading for additional government funding to figure out better ways of detecting and tracking potential planet killers and coming up with ways of deflecting possible impact trajectories.

So should we be putting more funding into this area? Bruce Willis may not be available when the time comes.

I witnessed one crashing into the moon maybe a year or two ago, was walking the Labrador one night around 10pm and glanced at the moon only to see a fairly bright impact flash around the upper right area. Was something on the news the day after, when I clicked what it was.

Musta been some whack, imagine If you had a space bungalow up there and anywhere within 10,000 miles of impact, the front windows would need refitted, and the floating plates put back on the floating shelves and the gnomes stuck back down again.
