the stark reality of professional golf, nice life if insecure for the top 100 or so and a dog fight for the many hundreds of wannabees, same as top level Tennis. Most other major pro sports pay a wage at least.

It is 1 year this week since Dunne last earned world ranking points.
The Clutch Pro Tour was approved for ranking points last month so he is guaranteed something this week having made the cut.

maybe the people behind the clutch tour could give Liv some advice😉

good to see Paul Dunne go bogey free in round one of the latest Clutch Pro Tour event in forest pines. Dunne carded a 5 under par round of 68 (par 73) in round one of the 54 hole event. Inside the top 5 after round one.

Bad start today but got it all back.

Paul is 4 shots off the lead entering tomorrow morning's final round of the Clutch pro tour event in Forest Pines. Currently just outside the top 5. Positive signs that Paul is finding some consistently good form on the golf course. Best of luck to him!

Any updates? Where are you seeing the leaderboard for this?

Looks like no updates for his group yet even though the leaders are on the 3rd hole. Same happened last week

Damn a few bad holes in the last hour. Looks like he's left himself too much to do?

Double to start with. You feel like heading back to the pro shop with a fiver in your hand and getting a new card

In the clubhouse on +10. Oh dear. A consolation birdie on the 18th probably didn't lift his morale much.

Hopefully better luck in Open qualifying.

What's happened him? Did the bit of success early in his career get to him and he took the eye of the ball around practice etc…..I always thought he would be a regular winner on the European tour even make a Ryder Cup team when he first started. It's some fall from grace

Professional golf is a cruel game. Tom McKibbin is currently the only Irish player resident in Europe who has an exemption to play in regular European (DP World) Tour events. There is no other Irish player remotely close to securing a place in the top 114 in the Race to Dubai rankings to gain a card by that route on the main tour for 2025.

Our best hope for better representation on the main tour next year is for the leading Irish lads on the Challenge Tour to hold on to or better their current placings - Conor Purcell (20) and Gary Hurley (21) are the highest ranked Irish players in the Challenge Tour rankings, the Road to Mallorca. Jonathan Caldwell (65) and Dermot McEloy (124) are the next two Irish players.

Saw gavin moynihan name on the open qualifier with Paul. I forgot all about him. Playing in Scotland now on the tartan tour. We are struggling badly for pros playing in Europe regularly

Only 2 qualifiers in the Amateur too and both gone after 2 rounds of matchplay. Hard to see where our next superstar will come from if it isnt McKibben.

He peaked winning British Masters ahead of Rory in 2017,he gradually lost his game and at same time had a wrist injury and just slid down the rankings pretty quickly and lost his card and really has never looked since like he might win it back.Same happened boy wonder Manassero who has won his card back so there is hope but it does not likely at the moment.

    Pulled out after round 1.

He was also painful to watch as he got really slow over a shot. Can’t be good having a debate over every shot

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,455 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

That doesn't look good for potential future invites. He was named in the Entry List under Category 4a: 'A maximum of 50 national/invited Players'.

Alex Maguire (Laytown & Bettystown) was in the same category but he's doing ok - in 25th place on -2 after 27 holes.

He posted a decent 71 (-1) for his round in regional qualifying at Baltray for the Open but he’s tied 10th and there will be six places available in final qualifying so he won’t make it.

Bogey 4 par 5 last two holes cost him. One shot better and he’d get through to next round. The difference in a player in form and not
