Nice, same for Kearney so. Career best cheque you'd imagine.

Dunne has Portugal now to continue the good form.

How much would we have to win to secure a card without having to go to Q school? And is the money he would have won at the Briyish Open counted towards this?

He won nothing (except pride and the admiration of the golfing world) at British Open so it doesn't count.

He needs about another 160k. So that's either a win or second on his own. I don't think tied second will do it for him, there is not as big a pot this week as the last two. I have been reliably informed that Paul has a good number of invites already for next year, but really he would rather have a card and be able to play whatever he wants to and not have to rely on invites and playing Challenge Tour of worse again, Euro Pro Tour! lets hope he can play well this week and wrap it up without having to go to Q School.

Interesting to note though, in only 2 tournaments he has clocked up €87,023. Enough money to have him at 173rd. Last place is 308 with €1,470, but more interestingly Damien McGrane has €89,505 and is ranked just above him @ 169th, but has played a whopping 27 more tournaments!!!!!!

It goes to show you two things
    1. How well Paul has done and how much of a prospect he is for the future, He IS the real deal. Although we have know this for a long time, it is great now that the rest of the world do.
    2. How bloody difficult life on tour can be

He's just showing off now tongue.png

An eagle 2 on his first hole (Par 4 10th - 406 yards)

Some start to the week if correct biggrin.png

    Edit: Now -3 after 2!!!!!

Was just on as a guest on Sky Sports 4 at the Portuguese Open , lots of questions along the lines of how is he adapting to life as a professional. Came across as happy with his progress to date, with his experience in the Open helping him a lot. Talked through his start today sinking a 52 degree wedge from 105 yards (one bounce and in) for an eagle 2 on the first followed by a 40 foot putt on the second, putter wen a bit cold after that but he said he was happy with the 68. Said if he gets into the top 10 this week he goes to Hong Kong next week and then onto Q school.

This is very impressive - he really seems to be the real deal. Great to see.

Having a nightmare day today, but at least he made the cut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Can anyone find live scoring for the Q school?
Looks like European tour are only posting scores as players sign their cards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

    -1 today, 4 back atm. tied 33
few lads seem to have already played themselves out of it, but a long way to go yet

    20 i think

he has not posted his score yet, -9 leading, so a long way back. lets hope he is going well today

    Dunne has posted a 66 ( -5 ) today, on -6 now, 4 off the lead.

Could be. There are supposed to be 80 spots in the final qualifying. I just guess 20 from each event. There is very limited info out there on the web about the finer details.

Most importantly though, Paul is now tied 13. Here's hoping for 2 more solid rounds to get through

Tied 13th but there's 24 on that number or better so he has no margin to play with.
Meanwhile I see Brian Casey from Headfort is going nicely in one of the other venues.

The european tour website is now saying that there is 18 qualifying spots on each course.
4 out of the 12 Irish are in qualifying spots at the halfway stage.

In the clubhouse now on -10, that's T9th at the moment, but it looks close as scoring is good today. A lot of cards still to be signed yet.

Is there a playoff if they get a lot tied on a score? Anyone know?

Usually they all get through with a tie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,823 ✭✭✭✭First Up

Now one of 6 tied 17th (22 on that or better) and not many still to finish so I think he'll be OK. Hurley gone I'm afraid.

Jack Hume from Naas looks to be in as well - waiting for Brian Casey's score but he would need a complete meltdown to miss out. That looks like our full complement for the Final Stage.

Jack might fall 1 shot shy id say.

Usually they all get through with a tie.

Reading the conditions it says a play off is likely as not all ties get through.

    Play-Offs
Play-offs are likely as ties will not be taken and a number of alternate
places will be available at each course. These will be conducted
immediately after play has been completed on the final day (or the following
    day as necessary).

That's a shame, the ties get through stage 1 and get their card at stage 3.
Showing the top 16 now as qualified so the play off must be in progress.

One of the guys on -10 with a Q now so looks like fight for the last spot between 5

They've given 19 spots to one of the venues with 2 players tied 18.

Jack Hume looks like he is still tied 18th so could have a play off also.

Through on the 6th Play off hole. Huge :D

Playoff start today (Sat) and lasts 6 days. Paul's tee time is 9.35 Irish Time today and he is playing with Jake Higginbottom & Jordan L Smith.

T52 after today, but it looks like he was on the harder course. Only 11 guys ahead of him on his course, so hopefully good conditions tomorrow and a decent round to move up the rankings :)

It would be a terrible shame not to make it through after so much hard work. Hope he does well today.

They play 2 rounds on each course and after that top 70 make cut to final 2 rounds

Interesting also is that it's not like last week...... There is no playoff to determine who gets cards. It's top 25 and ties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭A New earth

Better today -2 with a birdie on each nine and the rest pars for 3 under total, tied 36th, 2nd placed Irishman with Damien McGrane 1 shot behind Simon Thornton. Sad for poor Ruaidhri McGee a 87 after his 64 yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

In position now at T18. Well back from the leaders, but that doesn't matter, top 25 and ties is all that counts this week.

Great round today -4 only bettered by one person.

I'm not sure where the final 2 rounds take place, but I think I read before they were on the Stadium course. Looking at the scoring, he would be delighted with that, as that's where he has played his scored :P better golf this week.

Yes the tougher course is where he's played great so far. Every place matters Seve, the cut off for the better events will often fall somewhere in Category 15. Nice to be as high up the category as possible smile.png

Well, steady enough at two under today and one shot inside the magic number. McGrane is on the number so no room for mistakes.
Doesn't look like Phelan or Thornton will make the top 25.

Really hopes he makes it, seems like a genuinely nice level headed guy that will do us proud on tour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,823 ✭✭✭✭First Up

Finished at -10 and currently 14th. Currently 30 players at -7 or better so he has a little breathing space. 70 tomorrow should be enough.

McGrane has less wriggle room but you'd hope is experience will stand to him.

3 bogeys in his first 9 holes.
3 bogeys in the next 81 holes.

Very steady play from Dunne this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Birdie on the second. 11th on his own now @-11

-7 is currently the magic number

Just doubled a par 3 to drop down to tied 18th at -9.
    First sign of jitters.
