His agent was saying that, and I'd say Perez will be looking at legal action over that.

It's a serious sour grapes comment to make, and while I wouldn't claim to be someone who knows the intricate workings of the club, and while I think in general its a horrible club, from years of watching Madrid I would never associated racism with their general fanbase or within the club hierarchy themselves.

Madrid have a recent history of not appreciating industrious critical defensive components in their midfield, to somehow say Makelele didnt work out because the President doesn't like black players is a horrendous misreading of the situation.

He just doesn't like defensive midfielders.
To be fair, Spanish football has huge issues with racism. But it's Spain and not England, so FIFA and UEFA naturally tend to adopt their 'three monkeys' approach when it comes to this matter.

Marca and El Confidential in Spain have some stories of interest.
Marca say that talks are currently frozen between United and Real Madrid, but will resume after Perez and Ramos hold face to face talks.
I think we could yet see De Gea/Ramos transfesr taking place.

El Confidential go with Bale as being the top man now at Real Madrid with Perez seeing him as the man who is capable of replacing Ronaldo.

My opinion is there is a purge going on at Real Madrid, Casillas gone, Pepe had his contract talks cancelled, it just leaves Ramos and Ronaldo as the two main people who are said to be not the biggest fans of Perez.
Wouldn't be surprised if they did sell us Ramos, and if Reus was bought to replace Ronaldo on their left wing.

I think Blind is probably first choice LB, and Shaw will have some work to do.

Rojo looks like someone who could be frustrated most this coming season. A player I really like, has great heart and a bit old school. Versatile in being able to play LB and LCB.

Shaw will most likely win out being that he is a specialised LB, but he has plenty of work to do to figure as regular first teamer imo.

I thought Blind was pretty damn good at LB last year. The shakiness of the defence as a whole meant I don't think he got enough credit for how he played.

too slow for left back . attributes better suited to a centre mid role

I think he was fantastic at left back and much better than shaw who really only showed his quality a few times last season.

He's a squad member and with the number of games to be played this season he'll get games at left back and in the middle.

Also don't know if it was mentioned here, but Madrid posted their squad numbers for next season on their website last night, with Navas down as #1 and their new keeper as #13.

all of a sudden De Gea has gone from certainty to leave, to near certainty to stay. Past the point for me where he would be sold.

Keeping him for another year would be incredible, and really good work from the club being firm. And gives every chance to convince him to stay longer and sign a new deal. Hopefully the fans play their part next season showing him what he will lose if he goes/

This season yes, but looks like their just going to wait till he is free now, unless de gea signs an extension.

I know they made a b*lls of his leaving but every player gets to the point where they'll be replaced. DDG's availability, the fact that he's from Madrid (albeit an ex-Athletico player) and coming off the season he just did meant that the time had come for Casillas to move on. He's making the most of the sympathy he's getting because of all that happened last weekend but surely he realised his number was up when he watched DDG in action last season?

Yeh players numbers are up but I think what's happening is that few years ago when mourninho was there that Perez realised that iker was getting to big for the club he held too much power with the fans.

I think its been a few years coming but slowly Perez and the media turned the fans against him to the point where he can be shunted out without a whimper from the fans.

If you look at it iker ls made out to be a terrible keeper in the media as his days are past and he was making mistakes left right and center but looking at it none of his mistakes actually cost Madrid a trophy or a title there was no high profile clangers just some things that papers felt he should of got to. The main paper criticised him was marca and we all know who is practically in charge of them.

He isn't a bad enough keeper to be sent to Porto and replaced with a keeper that he kept out of the team last year.

Intelligence mitigates that. Plenty of times he was outside Young on an overlap last year.

    Very true.

Its fine to have concerns about his lack of pace but it was rarely a problem when he played left back. It was more of an issue when he played in midfield.

yeah thats what I mean, as in there might be legs in those stories about an agreement in principle that he join next year for free with a big signing on bonus.

Risky on Madrids part, anything can happen in a season. United make a good showing in CL and league and show real progress, coupled with massive fan support, and depending on Madrid, he could well have his head turned again and stay.

Barca look to have their strangehold firmly back in place.

So a bit of talk about about Rooney in a central role in the "event they don't sign a striker". Does this mean they are letting us know gently that they may not sign a big name striker this season?

No, it's just the papers printing utd articles fantasising on what ifs.
It was a weird article and all I thought of at the end was just, well, obviously he will be the main striker if no one else comes in.

That's the way I would read it - Romero and an RCB will be the 2 more signings for this summer. Would like a new striking option but would be happy if we brought in a new centre back.

Agree - it is hard to get excited about 2 more signings if one of them is the reserve keeper but I'd say that's the case.

With you also on the strike force but if it came down to it and there was to be only one further signing I'd rather take a chance with Rooney/Chico/Mata/ADM/De Pay forward options than Jones/Smalling RCB options.

i'd rather have lindegaard as backup and get cb and st sorted :P

Has all the Rooney Love died over the weekend? Last week on here he was going to be the goal scoring machine that brought us the title.

Can't see him hitting 20 myself but here's hoping.....

im more worried about if he is not on form or gets injured rather than replacing him. i think also it would be good for him to look over to the bench and see a striker who could take his spot in the team if he doesnt preform to the height of his ability i dont think hernandez and wilson will cause that. not saying he needs that to preform but would certainly help

I dont see anyone doubting Rooney. Its just having Depay, Januzaj and Wilson as his back-ups thats worrying.

Hes really not a LVG style keeper. His distribution has always been poor and I worry every time he has the ball at his feet.

Let's be fair though, it's not like that ball is going to switch itself from flank to flank, game after game.

New signings performed well, sneiderlin was pick of the bunch.

2nd half seemed like the better half to watch with peirera, januzaj, wilson and lingard adding pace to the game.

Yeh depay was pretty poor starting off in 15 but again the end in ultimate team he had some good ratings. Darmian was a rm in it but had high speed and defence statistis, schweinsteiger was all round good but slow and schneiderlin was a beast in his tots card.

They don't update the squads in the summer, same as fm. Well not officially.
There would be no incentive to buy the new game which is essentially the same game as the old one but with a new hat.

    From the Times tour diary.

Rumours of an impending bid from United for Nicolas Otamendi, the Valencia centre-half, continue to gather pace and yet the persistent speculation remains a source of considerable head-scratching among the top brass at Old Trafford. Well-placed figures at the club insist there is no interest in Otamendi, with one actually putting the rumour in the infamous Nicolas Gaitan bracket. Gaitan, the Benfica midfielder, has been linked heavily with a move to United for the past four summers, including this one, despite the Manchester club never having an interest in the player. David Gill, the former United chief executive, once got so sick of stories linking Gaitan with United that he rang up Benfica to instruct the club to stop perennially linking United with the Argentinian in a bid to create a market for him. Valencia seem to now be doing very much the same with their own Argentinian, Otamendi.

All eggs in the Ramos backet then i take it......
Is there any other centre half linked lately!?

I don't think pre-season is any immediate indication of player positions, as the first two games will be getting guys minutes and up to speed. As Van Gaal said himself the latter games will be getting more minutes and a better look into his thoughts.

Would be interesting to see by maybe the 3rd or 4th preseason game, if our front three are Depay on the left, Rooney central and Mata on the right.

Pedro coming in would be a real danger for Mata, who looked to be converting into the right side of the front three, but Pedro is specialised there. Pedro has good technical ability but also the change of pace to take on wing backs 1v1.

    Interesting watching the game tomorrow.

One of Van Gaals staples has been his utilisation of a ten, but from what I've read about his tactics in previous clubs, he hasn't used a 10 in the same role at United thus far.

I'd be very surprised if come Totenham Depay wasn't playing out from the left.

Woodward going to break the bank to try and sign Thomas Muller.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,755 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Was going to post about that bid.

No surprise really, but what I found strange was how quiet Muller has been since Schweinsteiger moved, what I mean is on twitter he didn't even acknowledge it, yet all his team mates were using twitter to show their appreciation. Makes one wonder if he was keeping his head down and might have indicated to Van Gaal he is open to a move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,229 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Lets try to do one of these mythical swap deals.

Di Maria and a few quid for Muller.

LVG: Sign me Bayern Munich's legend.

    Woodward: Which one?

    LVG: ALL OF THEM!

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,755 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Sport1 in Germany who said the Schweinsteiger transfer could happen very quickly, are the ones with this Muller story.

The claim is Van Gaal won't stop until he gets Muller.

United is such a soap opera these days...

I see a lot of Bayern fans going "it will never happen; even if a bid is accepted, Muller won't want to go".

But you'd have to imagine there's no way we'd be bidding like mad if there wasn't some signals from his camp that he would be interested.

Anyway, strikes me Ed wants a €100m player this summer, be it Bale or Muller. Be interesting to see who option 3 is (and, for instance, if the bids have been going in and we don't know about them).
