Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I actually wouldn't mind Cillessen, he's a pretty solid keeper. i don't get people being so against him. Don't get me wrong he is no DeGea, but then again who is.. He would be able to come straight in and understand LVG's philosophy and he is very good with the ball at his feet

What does the bit in bold mean?

The league starts in 18 days right? How long can we let the Ramos/De Gea stuff play out before moving on

If it happens we need time to get a keeper, if it doesn't what alternative defenders are there out there? or are we going into the season with Smalling Jones Rojo and Evans again

Rothwell and Pearson both gone to Barnsley on loan are a big loss for the youths. Will be good for them though if they get first team football

I only see that as a good thing, both gone to the same team aswell.

At that age , there better off.

Pearson is guaranteed a few red cards I'd say.

How much will we have to pay to get Ramos if De Gea goes the other way? What kind of money will the Dutch keeper cost?

Rumours that we bid 60m euro.. 42m pounds for Ramos. don't know how true that is.. Cillessen could be got for 12-15m euros id say

Cant see the dutch guy being anymore than around £12m.

Shouldnt have to pay much with De Gea either, but knowing United and Real, we will over pay

So around 35m + De Gea to get Ramos and Cillessen. That would mean we've spent about 100m. Still about 50m left or 90-100 if we get rid of Di Maria

What does the bit in bold mean?

He has been at Ajax since 2011 and their footballing philosophy is the same as the one that LVG would use. its not just about tactics and what goes on on the pitch, its about how you conduct yourself off it as well.. He was also called up to the Dutch team by LVG and played under him for during some qualifiers and was his first choice during the WC

Imo, none of the current crop of 20-21 year olds etc are United standard, other than perhaps Johnstone as a backup keeper. Rothwell, Pearson, Goss etc aren't good enough to stay at the club long term imo. Wilson (already involved of course), Pereira and maybe Harrop are probably the next and all could get there, even if not sure any are first team starter potential before the next group which could be good with Mitchell, Tuanzebe, Fozu - Mensah and Rashford, then go younger and both Gribbin and Angel Gomes look excellent so far.

I went big on the betting :P

€5 on Ramos @ 4/1 to join United
€5 on De Gea @6/4 to join Madrid
Went all out on Muller, €2 at 3/1

Watch the odds now tumble :P

A 1 minute silence will be held before the game in memory of The Berkley Tragedy last month

One of the Young men killed was big Schweinsteiger fan by all accounts.

    Nice touch anyway.

Yes and I think he met Bastian.

I hope we dont sign Cillessen as De Geas replacement. Nowhere near the world class standard that we are losing. An average keeper and lazy journalism to link him with us. From watching him play if I had to compare him to a keeper in the league it would probably be Mignolet although he would be a little better on the ball. I dont really rate Begovic, he is a fantastic signing as a number 2 and I would say he is a better keeper than Cillessen.

Except for in penalty shootouts. I remember him always looking completely overawed.

We better not sign Llorente, he's a poor mans Dzeko

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

I think people are reading too much into the whole "the tabloids haven't linked us with him" thing so they're going pretty left field with Bas Dost and Llorente and the likes.

I doubt Van Gaal scours the tabloids to read every rumour. And he could just be trolling.

    It's Greizmann

Lukaku is the name a few others are going with.

Im thinking all this is a big smokescreen for Utd to do the Ramos/ DDG deal.

Just on the match against San Jose, for anyone interested. MUTV are showing it Live at 4am, with full coverage repeated at 6.30am, 11am, 3.30pm, 7.30pm

Can we have a sweepstakes to guess the name of the striker :p

I do give a look everyday. They were upto 18.26 but it doesn't really matter. I am counting on Ed driving the share price...really think he is so important to the club and share price.

Makes no sense if he is. He's not good as a back up striker for Rooney. He's a good option as a plan B sub, someone you use as a target man and lump balls at and swing in crosses for at 75mins+ when possesion football has failed, and Rafa has know to like a plan B option, but we have Fellaini for that. Lorente would not be a good 2nd striker if Rooney good injured.

Just guess work from the mirror I'd say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭Smegball

Llorente would be a poor signing. Would be very underwhelming.

I'd rather Berahino/Austin to him and I wouldn't be exactly shouting from the rooftops with either of them either.

    Last minute Benteke bid.

Romero is quite substandard imo, hopefully he's just a League cup keeper.

Ya'd think Johnstone would be promoted to no.2 rather than sign Romero..

I would guess Johnstone is going to go on loan again. He needs games now and another year playing regularly will only do him good.Hope he gets a decent championship team.
