Van Gaal hinting at Depay as an option to play up front. Maybe there wont be a striker signed after all.

Doubt it. A decoy in this fested tinternet twittermania media world that we live in. I expect a striker.

Think we might have one or 2 more deals done or nearly done, without the media knowing anything

We could only sell for that if he is going to another English club. I can't see a European club spending 90m euro on him

Possibly but expecting the minimum of signings to include a CB and CM, that will be 4 new signings and all first team players. I cant see much business beyond that. Hopefully I`m wrong and theres at least another 2 signings as well but I reckon 4 will be our lot.

I think Utd will let De Gea go once the money is right.

Yep, even as I wrote that I was thinking that it's more than likely not as clear cut as 'If you don't give us Ramos, we won't give you DDG', as much as I'd like it to be. I imagine there is still a price in place for DDG but since there was a chance to sign Ramos, United used DDG as much as they could to hammer out a deal for him.

If those reports are accurate, Ramos has decided to stay with Real and that now kills the prospect of a deal to sign him. DDG has not decided to stay with United and I'm sure he has his bags packed already. As soon as RM cough up an appropriate fee, DDG is outta here.

I still maintain though that making him see out the final year of his contract and having him in goals would be worth more to the club than the €25m-30m which he will more than likely end up leaving for in the next few days.

    LVG on DeGea

I'd be surprised if DeGea actually gets on the plane - if Real want him they'll sort it out over the next 72hrs.

I doubt they would be willing to spend 90m on him even with the FFP restrictions lifted

well considering he has 4 years left on his contract they will pay united what united want if united are willing to sell. cant imagine for a second he would be sold for a penny less than what we paid

Why are people hung up on a €90m figure for ADM. He was bought last August for €75million EURO. I'd be astonished if the UTD money men hadn't done the deal in euros.

Utd are based in England so deal in Pounds Sterling. The Euro Sterling exchange rate is not the same as it was last August. £59m may have been €75m last year, but now its €82m.

Not the most interesting press conference, given Depay said what you would expect an Van Gaal not giving much away apart from Darmian will be signing.

    Depay:
"I want to play, of course," he said early on in the presser.
"It's up to the boss where he wants to put me.
"I'm excited about scoring goals and giving assists. I'm a striker."
"We have a lot of quality,"

"We have all the quality to win the title and all the trophies it's possible to win."
He also spoke of his desire to excite the crowd, but refused to be drawn on whether he can emulate another Old Trafford entertainer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
"The crowd like players who get goals," he added.
"[Ronaldo] is one of the world's best, but I don't want to talk too much. I want to show my quality on the pitch."

"It's like an adventure," he said. I have to work hard and show the boss I can handle it.
"My team-mates will help me settle and everyone is very nice. So far it's been easy."

    Van Gaal:
"He played striker in the Dutch team and learns very quickly.
"He can play in different positions. We have to wait and see in which position he can give the most benefit to the team."

"He's one of the few highly talented boys of his age," said the United boss, "but I know it is not easy [to adapt].
"Players like Rojo, [Angel] Di Maria and [Daley] Blind have had problems. We have to give him time."

"We have enough strikers and Man United shall not buy [for the sake of it]," he added.
"I want to develop players. When you buy it has to be better than what you have.
"In the season, it will be shown whether our thinking is true."

Ya I think you are looking at this arse ways. The shop is in spain. The price is euros. All RM care about was the agreed sale price - €75million. Just pretend mufc pay over 3 years.

    Year 1 €30m = £24 pound at time
    Year 2 €25m = £18 pound currently
    Year 3 €20m = £14.4 pound currently

How can you be certain we didn't pay that money up front though.. like Real paid United up front for Ronaldo

I think the thing is he wants someone like Muller for the right wing side of a front three, like Depay someone who plays wide but can play striker as well.

Last season we had the mess where we had three strikers where two could only play striker role, and Rooney in midfield is something we never want to see again and he is not good out wide.

So I think when he says we have enough strikers, he is being economical with the truth.

Really hope Depay is put on set pieces just looking at his goals from free kicks he is great at them, something missing from the side for a few years.

Giggs did mention his ability from free kicks, and it adding something to the side - but to be honest I would have Mata down as one of the best free kick takers in the league - don't know why rooney gets a shot ahead of him, ever.

Reading it's 20m euro, which isn't bad at all for a player like him.

Probably off somewhere rubbing his hands together & laughing like a villain in a cheesy B horror film, well that'd be my guess.

It's definitely true or they wouldn't put it on the front page, tweet about it 5 separate times and add a breaking news ticker to the top of the site. Same thing they did with the Götze transfer.

Would have been a good deal 2 or 3 years ago. Not now. His ankles are f*cked and he's moving to a faster and more physical league. You'll get an okay year or two from him but nowhere near value for money unless there are some amazing doctors in the UK that can heal his ligaments.

Sorry if I sound like I'm raining on the parade, but the rumoured fee of €20m is absolutely insane for a guy who has missed so many games because of ankle ligament injuries and is the wrong side of 30.
