I do think if the two S's sign the mifpdfield three will be a lot more flexible with the two S's sharing the real defensive duties rather than having one specialist sitting in that position. So instead of a 1 - 2 formation for the 3 in midfield, it would be more of a 2 - 1 formation with the two both having license to get forward rather than purely sitting.

Or I could be talking complete bollix. :pac:

OK so the most selling club of all time have this world class midfielder and go through their most sellingy period of sales but keep him despite him being such an obvious fit for two of the richest clubs in the league.

Schneiderlin is clearly not a priority for any top clubs. There's something in that.

Schweinsteiger is a truly world class player, German captain, World Cup winning, national icon beast of a midfielder.

    Schneiderlin plays for Southampton.

If he goes to Utd you'll be looking to replace him in a couple of seasons.

If he doesn't, then he'll go to Tottenham or somewhere and all the Utd and Arsenal fans will say 'how did we let that one go' before realising that he's a Europa level player.

Harry Kane is also that level btw. Don't bother signing him, just last season's Michu.

So if Schneiderlin isn't a priority for Utd did they just bid for him for the crack two weeks ago?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,756 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Schneiderlin is a French international, in a team that has the possibilities of going to the very top in international football.
    His star is only rising.

Schneiderlin was actually the only player Southampton refused to sell last year. Shows how valued he is that a selling club wanted to hold onto him over everyone else. He is quality and I really hope he is signed for us.

Just in case the memory is sketchy:

I usually dont comment on peoples opinions as i believe we are entitled to an opinion and its unfair for others to jump down someones throath for giving their opinion so With that in mind all i can say is in my opinion i believe that your opinion is very very warped and majorly strange.

    Have a good day.

    And Jay R!!

To be honest though, in a summer where they cashed in on their first team and ripped it apart for money, do you really think that the right price couldn't have gotten Schneiderlin. I see it's a move to Spurs they blocked too, not Utd, Arsenal, Madrid or whoever. If Liverpool, Utd or Arsenal wanted him last year he was gone.

Look I don't want this to turn into a me vrs Utd thread.

My assertion is that (if these go through) you've signed a world class midfielder and a good squad player.

They will, he will be the Carrick replacement.
Schweinsteiger left midfield, Herrera right midfield and Schneiderlin defensive midfield.

I don't really know how these things work but it seems pretty reasonable that Schweinsteiger would be a higher priority transfer to complete than Schneiderlin and that the people who do the nitty-gritty negotiations would be finishing one up before they finish the second up.

I'd imagine there are people working on the Schneiderlin deal on an ongoing basis but in most organizations you get to the stage where the sign-off people are needed. They're probably busy in Germany.

Playing with the likes of schweinstiger, ADM Rooney and the others will only improve Schneiderlin. The potential is there. Of course he's not a world class midfielder yet but with the power of Real, Barca and Bayern, we're not getting the very top players to come to England anyway so he's a good buy IMO. 2-3 years out of Schweinstiger would be great.

There can be hype over players in the PL based on little evidence, you are right on that, but this guy looks the part. For that matter, IMO Harry Kane will be the real deal too but I think he needs to stay at Spurs for a season or two. The hype will ruin him if he moves for big money now.

Sterling is another Bradley Wright Philips or Aaron Lennon. Liverpool will do brilliant business if they convince City to give them the kind of money they are asking.

I think that Schneiderlin is overrated by everyone that watches the PL, at least in the eyes of LVG and Wenger.

If either really wanted him, he'd be gone from Southampton by now.

In this matter, I'd tend to trust the expert managers rather than the hype machine that basically elevates the 'best outside the top 4' type players.

Utd don't want Schneiderlin - they want Pogba or Vidal or a young Schweinsteiger.

So get an old Schweinsteiger for a couple of years to buy you time.

Schneiderlin is arguably the best defensive midfielder (he is not strictly DM, I mean CM with defensive ability) in the league and the only arguable is Matic. He is not overrated. He is very good midfielder and needed for a proper functioning team.

Arsenal don't want to pay huge wages and ManUtd are trying to get price down.

Regardless of the Schweinstiger outcome, we should be busting a gut to get Schneiderlin

Arsenal were linked with him at the time as well. I can remember the papers were reporting it in the summer and around December time just before the transfer window. Interest cooled off from Arsenal when they realised Coquelin was able to fill the position.

Out of two transfers, I would be happier to get Schneiderlin as he a longer term replacement for Carrick. When Carrick was out injured, it showed how much we lacked in that area and how important Carrick is to the system so I think Schneiderlin is a bigger priority. He is a level above a squad player in my view and is only going to get better. Also will be delighted to get Schweinsteiger for obvious reasons!

Genuine question as want to avoid straw man. Are you saying here that in the PL, once we get rid of AMF, it's Matic, then Schneiderlin, and that it's close enough?

Edit: I have no idea why that emoticon came up. Stoopid phone

    OK, we'll agree to disagree.

In two years we'll know who was right.

Anyone find it curious though that a few weeks ago Utd put in a lowball bid and since then no-one else has bothered? I mean up there with Matic and better than all the others?

Edit: and as people have mentioned, he's not a DMF.

As far as holding midfielders go there aren't many proven ones in the Prem. Matic had a savage season last year and looks a cracking player, Schneiderlin has been excellent for a number of years at Southampton, Carrick has been brilliant when fit, Coquelin had a good year last year but has a lot to prove yet before he can be called the solution, Fernandinho and Fernando have been up and down. Outside of that there isn't much more - not in the role we're talking about.

20 million such a lowball bid  exactly 2 whole million less than what matic cost

I said his defensive ability is excellent for a CM/DM and only one arguably better is Matic and I didn't even talk about CM's attacking game.

There aren't many if any better than him at winning the ball back.

He is not a DM and I don't think anyone is arguing he is. I said he is excellent at winning ball back and for a CM there aren't any better (only arguable case is Matic but he is pure DM).

United did put lowball bid, if rumors are true then it was 20 Million pounds. Not lowball at all.

And since when people are using number of teams interested means better quality player? There are many reasons why teams won't be interested. For example, rumors are ManUtd agreed terms with him and his wages are pretty huge, so Arsenal are not competing for him. Clubs don't waste time chasing player when they don't want to match wages paid by other club.
