Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tijuana when I was a young gowl. Have you? Based on even the most American Mexican town, they have vastly different cultures.
Basing this off tv documentaries and general knowledge, so no, I guess I can't say I'm an authority on the issue.
I have lived In Spain and Italy though.

so you did the day trip down from san diego to get the Mexican stamp in your passport, drank some tequila and had some nachos, there was probably more irish staying where you were than there was Mexicans :D

I would normally agree but culturally, I'm closer to West Wicklow

    Central.

Still culturally more south than north.

    It's 100000% North America.

I was 12, so no. Even went to Las Vegas and saw the porn boxes on the side of the street.
But even in my extremely limited time in both countries, they are different culturally.

Now, who said the thread would die without stupid click bait articles. Me talking about my holidays when I was 12 is much more fun.

Meanwhile United are being linked with Sergio Romero, as have Real Madrid and Roma, but United are being linked the most to a free transfer of the goalkeeper.

But this has turned into a trickey one amd the only way madrid csn come out of it as a winner is to sign him next year on a free.

Madrid bid 13 million if we are to go by marca and other tabloids.
we refused to even talk about it unless they get ramos who is now their captain by default.
If madrid try pay 30 million now for de gea they will look very weak compaired to united. If they sell ramos thry might face backlash but also getting rid of himso they can get a player in last year of his contract is not goodlooking either.

Perez has really ****ed this up in my opinion and either scenario works best for united.

To be honest I've liked how we've played this one against Madrid. At the beginning of the summer I thought worst case scenario was that it'd drag out and we'd lose him at the end of the summer. But now I'm not all that worried about it because it seems like we're happy to keep him for another season if that's the case. If not then Ed and the club are rightly looking for a very high fee (exchange deal) in return for De Gea and we've gone from a position of weakness to a small bit of strength.

I've read that Roma have practically signed him; strikes me more that he's a goalkeeper who has played for LVG in the past, so a lot of people are writing an easy 2+2 story :(

as regards Fellaini, just remembered he is suspended for the first 3 games of the season so LVG has to come up with another plan and it means he wont start the season first choice - we do well in those 3 game, you can be sure he wont be seen for a while consistently in the starting 11.

Honestly believe that regardless of suspension, he won't be first choice this season, short of an incredible display of form.

All of them played multiple times (some played as captain) for their international sides? If you're talking about elite players then you're talking about a very minute field.

Yhh same but so far de gea is helping us, i started the summer disliking him for not signing a contract but the fact that so far he has been professional and is back to training is shown some respect for the club. I said it here couple months ago and still stand bye it that de geanis worth more for us to keep for a year and let him go for free then he is for us to let him go for a fee under 30 million.

On paper mata and Herrera are ahead of him, and di Maria.
Don't think he will be a starter unless we need a few elbows thrown around.

Living on rumours, United suppose to have offered him more than Roma, but Madrid interested as they think they may not get De Gea or sign Kiko Casilla.

Yes, you could describe the types of players I'm talking about as elite players. I know it's a small field, I just suspect that it might be disproportionately smaller for South Americans in England. I may well be wrong about that, it's no big deal either way.

I think not including Heinze is harsh, he was settled enough to not want to leave England, and was one of the best LBs in the world in his time at United.

Luis Suarez was another fairly decent South American. :)

Yeah I suppose he was more highly regarded than I've given him credit for. I was a big fan of his, I just didn't think he was that widely recognised outside of United. But his stay was relatively short at United (ultimately because of injuries I know), so he wouldn't really fit the type of example I'm talking about, like Aguero, Gilberto Silva or Zabaleta would.

Why are people saying that selling Di Maria would fund a striker? I think that we have plenty left in the budget if LVG wants to use it.

I also think that LVG is a positive influence on our transfers. He has a wealth of experience & must have a good address book.

The point I was making is that maybe South Americans don't settle in England so well. The lessor lights might settle for a career there, but when they're recognised as big names they tend to feck off to somewhere warmer (or whatever) more often than players from other regions. I'm not sure if this is actually the case, it's just an impression I have.

Read a good while back (was on a another forum so I am not saying this is fact) that Spurs were surprised with his lack of player knowledge when they interviewed him before we appointed him.

I hear he's given up trying to pass and shoot because he's so useless at it and focusing purely on the elbows which as we know is all he's really good at.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,504 ✭✭✭Polo_Mint

Fellaini should be used in a Niall Quinn role

Head down to striker and Goooooooooooooooooooooooooal

    Or back post goals

HE can also play MF but thats usless against teams who play from the back

Ah fair enough. Yeah I think the cultural and language differences means their more likely to stay away from England, Italy (although there are a lot of Argentinians with Italian backgrounds) and Germany and choose Spain instead.

Maybe Spurs were surprised that Van Gaal didn't know about random Brazilian in their 3rd division on whom Spurs could have invested.

any price beginning with £3Xmillion I'd be ok with, but at the end of the day it isn't my money and if we do sign him - i'll probably only care about his performances.

I don't think it will happen though, I can't see us forcing Madrids hand.

Is this all not just an exercise in confirmation bias?
Most of them would start their careers in the med.

Or even they have no ties to the country and want to experience other places in their short career.
The cultural differences are a big thing though, especially when they have nothing to keep them in the country.
You might get an Irishman or English man hate the med countries because of their lazy lifestyle.

Managers dont need to know every player and their attributes he needs to know how to use his scouts properly a managers job is to manage players and staff around the players and to judge their attributes when he is made aware of them a scouts job is to know players from other clubs, the likes of moyes might be an exception to the rule he likes to know more then most about players and scouting them.

I think his agent is starting to angle towards a new contract, so obviously starts the links with us as they are compulsory...

Where's all this lewandowski talk coming from?

His agent was banging on about he costing more than €50million to sign him. Don't know why he was saying it, or who asked him.

Basically said the guy is happy in Munich and for him to leave would require a sign from Munich (say.... accepting a bid?) and that while he guarantees goals, that doesn't come cheap (more than €50million). But he isn't thinking of leaving cause Munich haven't told him he is not wanted.

Nothing talk, imo. But interesting the agent is deliberately stoking the fires, imo
