It looked new, are they coming back?
    Who asked for them?

No way I'm not having that.

At this exact moment in time I feel like mentioning Ugg boots. Ladies... what the **** are you thinking? Stop it.

So does wearing a polo shirt with the words "I'm a cunt" written on it.

Blue jeans and black shoes is also a fashion no no.

Anna Wintour needs to come to Ireland to do some crash tutorials on fashion :D.

Ugg boots are one thing, but do you remember before that bun thing started, teenage girls would wear Uggs with tucked in tracksuit bottoms and the most untidy hair you had ever seen? All backcombed and tangled!

Not sure that's always such a hard and fast rule these days. Depends on the jeans and shoes.

That said, slavishly adhering to arbitrary fashion rules doesn't guarantee that you look well although you can see why that might be the case with people that spend 5 pages discussing jeans width.

13 pages. But it speaks of a deep rift between the simple turnip people of the bogs and their snazzy city overlords. Macho, hairy chested country lads and effete urbanites in jeggings.

Stray off Camden Street and you don't have to go too far to see the average Dub is more Colm Meany than Colin Farrell.

Man buns they have to be the worst thing ever to come into fashion this year. Seen loads of people around my age early 20s with a little bun about 4 inch long tied up on top of there head I am always pissing myself when I see it as it just looks completely wrong.

Having said that I can tie up my hair like one .... but I wear it down as I don't won't to look like a nob.

Dublin men undoubtedly dress better, but there's not enough individuality, especially amongst the younger generation. Everything is about what's 'in'. Skinny jeans/high tops and tan chinos were the two laugh-out-loud trends of the decade. I used to love seeing them all pour into Trinity every day, like a little army of bees. What's the latest thing? I know a group of aggressively heterosexual lads who are dressing ridiculously camp these days, so maybe that's it.

There's something to admire about a man that finds his 'style' and sticks with it. My own was ripped wholesale from Ian Brown and Liam Gallagher about 20 years ago, except that I've always preferred tight-fitting jeans. I think it's a timeless look and I always look either trendy or hopelessly out of touch, which is exactly where I want to be. Maybe we're not giving the boot-cut brigade enough credit. Also, country lads make the Dubs look good. Someone has to, because otherwise they're as bad as everyone else. The Dubs are the bog-men of Western Europe.

In general, Irish guys don't dress that well. I think most guy's attitudes to clothes is "this'll do". When I went to university in the UK it was like a time machine to at least a year in the future - people were far less worried about being called "gay" for wearing something different. Another problem is that you have a lot less independent fashion shops, so the vast majority of people will go to the same high street stores and buy the same stuff. The fact people are still defending bootcut jeans in 2015 says a lot - try something different.

The biggest problem there is that you have so many high street stores, at the expense of any other kind of store, and they're all obsessed with 'fast fashion' - knock something based of a catwalk show a month ago, use ****ty materials and get it out for cheap, before replacing the entire store's clothing a couple of months later. In the long run you're so much better off buying more expensive clothes that will last longer and are timeless than cheap, poorly-made clothes based on passing trends.

I'm not defending them, I simply cannot see what's wrong with them or how they're not standard jeans. Bit of bandwagon jumping with the auld "Oh noez, bootcut jeans" lark methinks. If a fashion designer said they were stylish tomorrow, the disdain for them would magically disappear.

"Standard" jeans would be straight leg jeans, not bootcut.

Can people even tell the difference? I don't go around estimating the measurements of other people's jeans so I can determine how much of a pleb they are.

I always considered bootcut to be pretty run of the mill jeans.

The general style where I come from is bootcut jeans, brown loafers and checkered shirt. Not too bad until you see that the shirt is TUCKED INTO THE JEANS

*I come from a small country village and would never expect this fashion faux pas to happen in the real world

Hate to break it to you, but shirts outsides of the jeans started to look naff about a year ago.

Are the girls still wearing leg warmers in your village?? Fecking Cyndi Lauper fans.

Bootcut on me look like straight fit while straight fit look like skinny jeans. I've yet to find a pair of skinny jeans that can get past my knees, thankfully.

Suppose that's what happens when you have a bit of meat on your legs.
Some of guys in skinny jeans must have just pure bone for legs and little else, they loo like twigs.

That's like asking can you tell the difference between straight and skinny jeans.

I can see when someone's jeans are so tight it cuts off their circulation below the waist, but other than that it all looks the same really. I guess fashion and the elitism that comes with it is lost on me.

Skinny jeans are not really any tighter than any other cut of jeans in the crotch area. Main difference is the legs.

For men - Fit >>>>>>> Fashion

Well fitted clothing (which is usually a tailored suit) will make a man look his best, hence the fawning by femmes over a guy in a suit.

Saw a couple going to a wedding there one day, the couple looked to be dressed fine, except for the guy, his shoes were those really pointy toed ones, still nothing wrong or too amazing about that.

But the shoes had curled from the front upwards and the tips were nearly pointing back at his shins. They looked like something an Elf would wear in a Christmas film. It was ridiculous looking.

Presume that look is in fashion though, so it's OK. But standard jeans with a slightly wider end on each leg... not even once!!!!!
I remember stilettos and cowboy boots being deemed the most hideous things ever - suddenly in the early 00s they became popular. Same items, just different reception to them based on what Vogue says.
I love The Devil Wears Prada though, and the Anna Wintour character does make a fair point that those of us who think we're so above fashion actually buy into it more than we think. We still have to wear clothes like.

To me, bootcut jeans just look messy and untidy. A load of excess material just covering the ground, pointless and unflattering.

I always cringe when I see lads wearing braces and a belt together at the same time. Logic completely gone out the window.

I may not be very good at dressing myself.

I don't think it was an intentional look, it was like he got the shoes wet, threw them into the hot press. Months later had a wedding to go to, pulled out the pointy shoes and they had curled up cause of the heat into shoes like Aladdin or someone in a Tim Burton film would wear.

Even an off the shelf "fitted" shirt can make a massive difference. Blousing is a crime and makes us look fat(ter).

They really are the cheapest form of birth control.

Truly fugly footwear. Fine for the beach or gardening NOT for the street or pub. Full stop!

I love all these urban styler hipsters going around with their rolled up tight jeans, AND NO SOCKS (wtf???), doc shoes, quiff, fancy tshirt, and classic raybans on.

But what do they wear when they have to go out and cut the grass, or cut back a hedge, or paint a fence?

Do they get out of their urband hipster uniform into an old pair of jeans and boots, or are they too wimpy to get paint on their little manicured hands? Afraid their quiffs will get upset in the breeze?

I wear a pair of wellies.

Doesn't mean I'm going to walk around in a pair of wellies all day every day. I don't get dressed in the morning thinking what will I do if someone springs a surprise grass-cutting or fence painting job on me later in the day.
