Sharing a mobile broadband connection

I have a laptop running Win7, with a WWAN card and SIM slot. Is it possible to share the connection and connect the LAN socket to a router? I am not getting the option to create a bridge between the WWAN and the LAN.

I did do something similar on an XP box before, but sharing a wifi. It required a non-standard setup on the other machines (different subnet masks and static IP) I'd like the machines getting the shared connection to work by DHCP from the router connected to the LAN of the machine with the WWAN if possible.

Would it be easier to get a 3G router instead?

I don't know if Internet Connection Sharing is still supported or not. You could enable ICS on the laptop (which will enable the DHCP server on the laptop) and then plug the laptop into the WAN port on your router. Once DHCP is enabled on the WAN side of the router it should work fine.

Probably better off going with a 3G router though.

Yes .

If the other devices that you want to share the 3G connection are all wireless, you may be able to exclude the router entirely by setting up an ad-hoc wifi connection, but there are some free applications available that are designed to allow you share a wired network connection to your wifi devices - they should probably work just as well wth a 3G connection.
