Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Here here. Some of us are stuck in work and relying on golf commentary from the rest of you and not commentator commentary ;)

    C'mon Dunners :D

Not able to watch the golf at the moment but scoring seems good. Most players either level or under par - except for Harrington, of course! What are conditions (course/wind) like? Looks like a few tricky pin positions today, particularly 4,5 and 10.

theopen radio coverage is excellent. Some great stories on it. I found the stories from Richard boxall this morning to be particularly excellent while they were waiting for the golf to restart.

New found respect for Boxall, seems like a grand chap

Yeah I'm happy out in work with the Cans on listing to it ;) The European tour radio commentary is very good; I find myself listening to it quite a bit on the Thursday or Friday to pass the time.

Shane Lowry going out at 4 ish isn't good. Bad weather, and will probably get his round finished today, so won't benefit from finihing off first thing in the morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

Ben Martin had a good run of three birdies in a row, would love to see him claw his way into contention, but very doubtful

Much stronger winds expected tomorrow (mid-20s all day) than today (generally 17-19mph) - definitely no advantage in having to come back tomorrow morning rather than finishing your round today.

Great chance for Zach Johnson and Willett to get out early, in the best weather of the day with receptive greens, and set a target of -10, or possibly better. It'll make things very difficult for Dustin and Jordan - based on the forecast it's going to be a real test for them playing late today and finishing early tomorrow morning.

Ben Martin up to -1 with four birdies in his last 6, hopefully he continues this and finishes strongly! Great golfer, love watching him play.

They just said there, the first group that went out this morning are coming to the 18th.

They were on the first green when play was suspended, got back out there at 10 and now at 1 o clock are coming to the 18th. Only 3 hours to play 17 holes. Be interesting to see how much that extends as we go on for the rest of the day

Another birdie by Ben Martin has him up to -2! 5 birdies in 7 holes now! If he keeps up this finish he'll be right in it! Great player who has had some poor results recently but when on form is a delight to watch.

The double greens slows play down even more that usual, when the first few groups were on the front 9 with nobody playing the back 9 they wouldn't have been held up on the double greens at all.

The first group is still playing 17 at 1.36pm according to the leaderboard so not quite as quick as that!

Mark James makes me want to sleep when he's commentating.

On another note, I thought Scott abandoned the long putter?

Not one birdie on the road hole.

    That's absolutely crazy!

Jaco Van Zyl, and then Thomas Aiken have managed it today.
You needed to be out early today, and South African, it seems.

I'd say the BBC are creaming themselves over Rose - 3 birdies in a row! Good fightback by Harrington as well - is he getting a look-in on the goggle box?

Will the BBC's coverage be extended given the rain delays? It is only scheduled to be on until 8.

Andrew Cotter (BBC) tweeted that it's going over to BBC4 at 8.

Jokingly he suggested the commentary will be by Alan Yentob!

Edit: Confirmed on BBC website .....

Friday 17 July: BBC Two 09:00-20:00 live coverage, then BBC Four

Can't follow anyone with the coverage today a lot of the times your just seeing putts and don't even know what there shooting for

Is there a projected cut line yet? what are the rules?

Is there a projected cut line yet? what are the rules?

Far too early for a projection with all the late starts. It's usually of the order of the top 72 and ties. There's currently 89 players on even par or better but about half of the players on level par haven't teed off yet.

Watch the leaderboard on the official website later, they will add a line 'Projected Cut' below the top 72 or so. That will move up and down depending on how the people in the danger zone are performing.

The road hole still playing very difficult today but at least there have been 3 birdies so far. Conversely, no bogeys (or worse) on 18 today and playing to par 3.3, index 18.

Dunne birdies 9 to go to -4 and into top 20. Solid front 9.

Fair dues to Faldo he certainly packed in some career in a brilliant 8-9 year spell. He totally dropped off after his last masters win in his late 30s.

it's a fcuking joke. the amount of coverage of Faldo was way overboard. now we have to watch him walk to the scoring booth! when top players on the course. i'm watching spieth and johnson on featured group now.

Haha this is it. I always enjoy Open coverage as I like the BBC's approach where they bring out stories. If they just showed wall to wall drives it wouldn't actually appeal to as many people.

But it seems a few golf die hards just can't get it into their heads that 4 full days of ad free golf is manna from heaven. They always want more. They don't actually know what it is they want, as long as it's more.

By the way Faldo bashers, did you not watch the Masters this year? For the best part of two hours on the Friday evening it was the Ben Crenshaw show. Faldo is much more deserving of such a tribute.

Also, I can assure you wholeheartedly that if BBC went to ad breaks every 15 mins, then their graphics teams and camera teams would be able to sync everything up much more seamlessly.

The Beeb don't have the luxury of popping off air for a few minutes to prioritise shots and events, and create mini highlights reels "as live". They have to constantly rely on intuition.

Well I like butch and Claude Harmon as they know quite a bit about the game. The shot centre is interesting as well.
Each to their own I suppose
