Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New Irish Films

The Galway Film Fleadh kicked off last night with a screening of Simon Fitzmaurice's Emily's Song... any boardsies planning to head West to check out what's on offer this year?

I am hoping to make it down for the weekend but there are a lot of new Irish films playing throughout the week. A few that caught my eye:

The Survivalist - this screened at Tribeca and got good reviews. Features a strong cast and has a post-apocalyptic vibe, looks interesting.

Traders - this could go either way, interesting premise about recession hit Irish people fighting to the death for money. Haven't read any reviews so far.

You're Ugly Too - Aiden Gillen pops up again in a film that got some good reviews when it played in Berlin. I think this is getting a cinema release at the end of the month so I will probably wait until then to check it out.

An Klondike - this looks intriguing. It is being billed as Ireland's first Western and is about three Irish brothers looking to strike it rich during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890's. It's being premiered at the Fleadh so no reviews yet.

Anything have any recommendations on other films playing that are worth checking out??

More info on the films playing available here:

This is really good, a very dark and minimalist take on a dystopian future, worth a look at any rate.

Traders is a world premiere too so it won't have reviews yet.

I did a whole series on the Irish films at the Fleadh. http://www.scannain.com/tag/films-at-the-fleadh

I'm currently working on the shorts. http://gearr.scannain.com/tag/shorts-at-the-fleadh/

My Name Is Emily received two standing ovations and generally positive feedback last night.

That's a great resource - fair play for putting all that together.

Any films in particular that you would recommend seeing? I heard mixed reports about My Name is Emily but by all accounts the evening itself was a very moving experience.

Pursuit looks interesting. A Day Like Today, which screens today, is very good for such a low budget film. I Am Belfast is something completely different, and the documentary Deoch an Dorais should be good fun.
