Yeah I never heard of it before either but according to the email it's part of the attestation process. Did you get an email yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭kaiserdave

Aye, over the moon. Think the attestation interview is being informed of what enlistment and training involves.

  • Registered Users Posts: 50 ✭✭HOPEFUL3

Is it possible to fail the interview on the 21st or is it just a formality ?? Over the moon here. What do u reckon guys, will we b just down for one day on the 21st and then told to come back after xmas ???? Not too clear what's happening yet. Does anyone know if basic training is 17 or 19 weeks long ?

Yes, I emailed them a while back and they said there may be medical at the end of January. Where did you hear about the new class?

I know a man that has been down there for a number of years now and he said they did medicals on people so that they could fill three classes !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭Celticlily

I've spent my morning trying to ring them. They won't answer the phone. Has anyone heard anything ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 Arron13

I'm guessing no one has heard anything

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭Celticlily

Phoned them today. They said my Garda Vetting isn't back yet so they put me on a panel for 2016

do you know when in 2016 and when did you do your medical

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭Celticlily

I've done everything I was just waiting for the email. But I'm not Irish so for me it takes longer to get the paperwork back. They said they were hoping for August.

    Add your reply here.
Did they say that the second class was offered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭Celticlily

No they didn't say anything about it. They just spoke about my file and never mention anything else. Give them a call bud that's the best way to find out. At least I won't be checking out my emails all day long anymore.

Yeah did my medical on the 31st of august, they said I'm still in the running, but if I didn't get it they will contact me immediately, they said

Anyone going down on Monday 21st December have any idea what attestation is or what dress code is?

Also any potential recruits from Northern Ireland like me not have PPS number / ROI bank account???

I'm going to phone Recruitment Office tomorrow re the above, just hope they answer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭kaiserdave

Think attestation involves a lot of note taking, being introduced to the barracks, serving officers, and so on. Will probably be a lot of red tape, i.e. documentation. Dress code is relaxed as far as I know, stand to be corrected, so jeans/trousers/smart runners/shoes/nice jacket should be fine. I'd say bring your social security details, maybe you'll have to open an Irish bank account in the Republic. See you on the 21st, all going well :D

Cheers bro. I'll give a ring to Recruitment Office in morning as a matter of urgency. Surely they'll b able to advise me as Northern chaps going to NS will have same issues. Have you got original birth certificate? I have certified copy which they accepted before without any problems. Think that's it as far as documentation goes, I have exam certificates which they may or may not ask us to provide on the day, Photo ID etc. Have also requested travel warrant to Newry by rail 😆

I have an original birth cert, well at least I think it is. No worries mate, let me know if you get a reply. You should be fine anyway. Otherwise, bring as much proof as you can.

Is there a bus from Cork to the Naval Base does anyone know?

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭kaiserdave

There is a bus from Cork to NMCI, which is five mins away from the base (drive). According to Google Maps you can get the 223 bus outside NMCI at 9:16 am tomorrow. But I'm not sure how reliable that is.

Cheers mate. I'm getting train down today from Newry, staying in hostel in Cork city tonight. I'll get the bus to NMCI tomorrow a.m. and hoof it to the base. What you wearing? I have nice jacket, nice shoes, trousers etc. Not wearing shirt/tie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭kaiserdave

No worries bud, I'll probably wear trousers, runners/shoes, a nice shirt and my Australian rugby jacket. See you then mate, safe travels.

We going to the naval base or NMCI?
