I got an email from (eircom admin@orange.jo) proclaiming to be Eircom Admin informing me that my email might be used to send spam. I assume this is a hoax to get information. I deleted the email. They wanted me to click on some link.

If it is a hoax or scam might be advisable to warn your customers.

    Thanks for posting this Sobko,
this does certainly appear to be a phishing scam mail. You took correct action in not opening this. If you receive this again could you PM me with exact text?

Thanks for posting this johnboy1951, yes this is certainly phishing. One of the ways to check is to look at the suffix at end of mail address. In this case it has a .ru, which is Russia.

There are a lot of these around purporting to be from service companies... It really pays to check if you have any suspicions at all...

    Thanks
    Tony

    Tony,
Is it not possible for Eircom to 'weed out' those emails, or at minimum mark them as scams for the user?
Other providers can, and do .....  why not Eircom?
Especially if the email is quite obviously pretending to be Eircom!

    Hi Johnboy1951

There are ongoing works and efforts with the aim of doing so. At present there is no direct control over such emails but I'll make sure your feedback reaches online operations.

    Thanks
    Al
