Oh that's good new Yellow, good luck with your scan xxx

We had our appointment today, the doctor was really nice and more a less said they did everything right, if we go again they might change the drugs around but everything went to plan, we got eggs, we got fertilization, we got day 5 and 6 embryos. But sometimes there is a bit of magic involved and it wasn't there this time....

So out plan is they are putting me on metformin for 8 weeks, they are hoping this will cause me not to go in to over stimulation on our next cycle. Then we are doing an endo scratch after my next bleed and they want me to loose a stone. The weight isn't a big issue, but they said they want to give me the best chance possible, so I guess it makes sense...

We have a holiday next month which I am really looking forward to so the motivation to loose weight for both is there :)

Glad to hear you have a plan - I do think it makes it easier if you have something to be working on. After the miscarriage, I did the couch to 5k programme and it gave me something to concentrate on. I would highly recommend it.

Where are ye heading on holiday?

Glad the consult went well Sticky, so jealous where are you off to on holidays? Hope you have a great time! Trying to loose a bit of weight myself and get healthier. Want to go into this 2nd round knowing I'm as healthy as possible!

Yellow Diamond, I know it's not about the money but part of it kinda is, its the 'where will it come from' and it can be a worry trying to get it together. Here I am trying to save for our second round, supposed to be staying as stress free as possible but all the while I'm saving I'm running out of eggs! It's so very hard. Nothing worse than starting off to bills in January. I feel the clinic should give some help in some instances especially when we've spent so much with them already. Anything would help wouldn't it. Yes IVF is covered, I'm nearly sure it's 20%, I haven't applied yet waiting on my P60 to come through but I'll let you know how I go.

Today is Day 1 of healthy eating and exercising at least 5 days per week. Lots of fruit & veg for me but not totally cutting out all treats, going to save them for the weekend!

Heading over to NYC for a week, literally so excited...

I've been doing the couch to 5K app, finding it good so far, also returned to slimming world, big weigh in on Wednesday, fingers crossed were going in the right direction.

We also have started (very early stages) of looking into IVF abroad. Our specialist mentioned it on our last visit. We are in a lucky position we have enough for this round and if necessary or applicable we could do 2 FET's. But after that we will have to start saving again. The difference in price is crazy!!!

Great to hear that things are looking positive for you. I enjoyed the couch to 5k, I think it is very user friendly.

Aw lucky you Sticky, I'm DYING to get there. Someday! One of my friends moved there actually on Friday, might get over in October if all goes to plan with this IVF round. My plan is to do this round and (hate to even mention it) but if it doesn't work we're going with Donor Eggs. My eggs are the problem so that is what we have decided. Would love to hear how you get on with going abroad and your journey. keeping everything crossed this is your year xxx
Is the app just called 'Couch to 5k'? Might download that

I've got the Zen Labs C25k app.

It's brilliant and you can play your own music and it mutes it when telling you to speed up or slow down. And it tells you when you are halfway so you can turn around to go home.

Hollywood, I hear you, it's hard going. I prob worded that wrong! We had to ask family for help, it's stressful! Do please let me know how you get on with the p60 it's not a lot but at least it's something. Hope all of you are keeping well? Is anyone starting a cycle soon, we are to start the short protocol this Wednesday!

Once you get your p60. So any time from now really! If you don't have it yet you can request it from payroll:) we paid for icsi in October but then my husband got sick so we're only going ahead now. It's handy that we can claim now. Every bit helps!

Hi Ladies, apologies, I've been AWOL for a while. Trying to get myself sorted. Need to get on here a bit more. No internet at home since before Xmas so that's my excuse!! How is everyone doing?

Yellow Diamond, how is your SP cycle going? I'll be on that next time. Would love to hear the process of that one?

Sticky, I'm just waiting to receive my P60 from work and then I'll be making my claim for all my health expenses from 2015. If you haven't made a claim before and once you have all your receipts you can make a claim for the last 4 years. You can do all this online too which is very handy. Can't believe it's February and I haven't got my P60 yet, if I haven't got it by the beginning of March I'm going to have to talk to them.

So yesterday was the first day of lent so I've given up all chocolate, sweets, taytos etc, this is a great time for me to loose some weight and get back into some sort of shape. I've decided I'm not allowing myself to sign on for round 2 until I am minimum 9stone, I've 12 pounds to loose. Shouldn't be too hard... right??

I've also started taking Pregnacare Pre-Conseption, Royal Jelly, Fish Oils and Spirulina. I'm going to add C0Q10, Brazil Nuts and Bee Propolis to the list. I've read about those so that's why I'm going to take them. What are you guys taking, if anything?

Hi Hollywood, welcome back, I didn't go ahead with the short protocol last month, took a break because I just wanted to be hormone free for a bit, plus I started new job! Will start it hopefully end of february! Hope your doing well. quote="Hollywood130;98692639"]Hi Ladies, apologies, I've been AWOL for a while. Trying to get myself sorted. Hope the new job is going well Yellow Diamond.

So I've had a pretty bad weekend, not feeling great this morning either. My stomach is absolutely huge, I look 4 months pregnant and the pains down my right side is so so sore. You know those really bad stabbing pains. It started Friday CD14, during 'funtime', I bled and bled for the night afterwards. Wondering did a cyst burst or something.... anyway I'm at work now and I really wish I stayed home, my tummy is still so sore. Lovely Monday morning

    Morning Ladies

I phoned my clinic to see what the process was for starting another round of IVF, for starters the price has increased from €4500 to €4750. You'd think by now it would start coming down a bit rather than increasing. I know it's only by €250 but it all adds up doesn't it?. So, this time I'm on short protocol (last time was long), the first thing I need to do is pay them then they will send out a prescription to start on my Day 1. I was hoping to start early April but AF is due to arrive on the 20th of April so I am going to aim for March 24th. I think I'm going to request a scan before I start to be sure there is nothing sinister going on in there. Fingers crossed all goes to plan, it's good to have a date in mind at least I have something to work towards.

Feeling much better today, stomach is slowly going down, don't really have much pain now so it had to have been ovulation. Excited and anxious about starting the next round. Spring is a nice time to start I think. I did read somewhere that Spring is a good time because most animals give birth in the Spring, I know, I know sounds daft right?!!!! But I'm remaining very positive this time, no dark thoughts!

Did I read recently that varadkar was planning on making IVF treatments available on the public healthcare system

Yep. No details, nothing other than a bit of a media soundbite out there though. While I'd love to see this come in, and would be the first to put my name down for it it sounds to me little more than an election sweetener. How can he defend bringing in IVF for thousands of parents when the A&E services are so dire with trolleys everywhere?

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Hollywood130

You did RugbyMad however, there is nothing in the Fine Gael manifesto about it. I too think it was an election sweetener, surely if it was going to happen it would have been mentioned in the manifesto.

Well ladies, I've decided to push my second round of IVF out to April cycle. Reason being trying to get my body in better shape for it and an extra bit of time to take these supplements. There is a lady close to where I live too, she's a healer which I'm going to try. I've just heard about someone who has severe Endo, was told by 3 gynaecologists that she would never get pregnant on her own to find out now she is pregnant, she swears it was this woman who done it for her so I've nothing to loose, I'm going to go to her. Need to phone and make an appointment.

Today I'm on CD9, I've sharp pains down my right side and I'm bleeding ever so lightly, only noticing it when I wipe, it's very pink. Anyone had this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Hollywood130

    Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd post and let you know that, on Monday I submitted a claim for my 2015 Health expenses through PAYE Anytime online. The total was €4950 and today I received the refund into my bank account of €988. So happy to receive this and so quick too, wasn't expecting it that quick. If you have receipts from last year I would highly recommend making a claim. Now I have that money to go towards Round 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Hollywood130

    Trying alternatives!

3 weeks ago I went to a lady who does complimentary therapy as I try to get myself in shape for Round 2 of my IVF. Both body and mind. This lady was recommended to me from another girl with severe Endo, this girl was told by 3 gynaecologists that she would never get pregnant on her own, so she had a few appointments with this lady and voila, she is pregnant! So, I thought theres no harm in giving it a go, it can't do any harm anyway!

I went and i felt so so relaxed so it nothing else it cleared my mind for an hour. She performed 'cupping therapy' which gets the blood flowing to the ovaries and she done some energy healing. I really enjoyed it and I'm going back tonight.
She gave me the cups to do at home so I've been putting them on each evening for 20minutes. She also advised me to take Evening Primrose Oil, Super 8's and Himalyan pink Salt, all of which I've been doing.

I'm on CD14 right now and I don't have the usual sharp pains which I normally get what I do have is period type cramps low down at my ovaries, that's not to say I won't get the sharp pains though. I'm feeling these cramps on my left side too which I normally never feel anything that side.

I'm waiting on confirmation of funds at the moment which I hope to get really soon, once that comes through I'll be signing on for my second round of ivf.

While during my last cycle I felt completely different and probably had some false hope due to this I did get AF. Now I believe it is just everything inside waking up and starting to flow right. I had a pretty long AF normally a 4 day turned into 6, maybe not a bad thing. I was back with my Complimentary Healer again last week, she said 'my ovaries are singing' and that the energy is flowing well around them. I was so relaxed I even fell asleep on the table!!

I've contacted the clinic to let them know I'll be starting on Day 1 of my next cycle. They sent me the cycle of what will happen during this one. It's all new as last time I was on Long Protocol, this time it's Short. Now all I need to do is get them paid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭ali_d

Hi all, just looking for a little bit of guidance and info! Currently starting a new cycle of IUI and been told that if this doesn't work, it's on to IVF. As you can imagine, I have so many questions in my head! How is it decided about whether you're on long/short protocol? I've read about the long protocol but what's involved in the short?

  • Registered Users Posts: 149 ✭✭Kantava

It's the doctor who decides what protocol you will be on. You might get better answers in long termers thread. Good luck!

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Hollywood130

    Hi Ali

As Kantava said it is the consultant that decides based on why you haven't been able to conceive. On my first round I was on Long because I have Endometriosis. After that round failed the consultant is now going to try short as apparently the Long made no difference to me. Well they did figure out that my eggs are not the best quality so the protocol isn't going to affect that.

I'll be starting short this time, although it's going to feel like long because on the first day of my next cycle I'll be placed on the pill for 3 weeks, then I'll go on a gel for my upper arm for a further 5 days. Then it's onto injections for as long as it takes to get decent sized follicles followed by Egg retieval and Embryo transfer. Short for others may be different, it may not involve the pill, but that is what my Short Protocol will look like. I'll be starting in about 3 weeks so I'll be updating this more regularly, you can see what's happening at each stage. Hope this helps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭ali_d

Thanks for replying. I know I shouldn't really be thinking about it as the IUI could well work for us, fingers crossed!! But I'm just that kind of person that likes to mentally prepare in advance to take some of the surprise element out of it!!

I'm completely the same Ali and I think you're better off, at least you know what the step might be and your prepared to make it if necessary. It's good to have researched and know might be in the future. Fingers crossed the IUI will work for you and you won't need to take that next step. None of this is easy xx
