So, according to the Council there is no money to complete the running tracks and pitches in phase 2 of the plan for Castlebar. Despite Enda and Co announcing it half a dozen times in run ups to elections etc. There is also another delay in the opening date for the swimming pool.

In other news the planning office has refused permission for a major retail development by Jackita Ltd on Main St. And there is still no sign of a start on the much heralded development at bridge St.
    Good times.

It was interesting reading Taylor Architects statement saying the building at the center of Jackita's proposal is "is unsafe and in a poor condition and should be demolished" when it homes two businesses currently.

Bosh is officially closing in the next few weeks as per their Facebook page. Rising costs, insurance premiums citied.

Shame that. Great spot for watching sport. Loads of TVs. Nowhere else like it.

That is a shame, not been in there in a long time but not a bad spot.

Real pity that, brilliant spot to have a good pint and watch the football. Had many good nights in there over the years watching games. And a few bad ones too. It was an annual trip for myself and the brother inlaws for the CL final into there early. Hope its taken over and they keep the general essence of it.

Image of the Swimming Pool, reported that it's weeks away from being ready. In fairness, it's looking like it's coming along ok from the outside too.

Excellent news - hoping the completion of car park / landscaping won't add any further delays.

Wonder what the final cost of the pool is. Can't help but think the over run on time and money had an impact on the delay/cancelling to the phase 2 running track and other facilities.

Manager in Bosh said it was going ahead again... he was fairly certain of it.

It was refused by Mayo Planners basically because they didn't want a card club in the area. They didn't really have a valid reason for refusal (IMO after reading the reason for refusal). The applicant then appealed to An Bord Pleanála and was granted permission.

Can't say it's something I'll be using but fair play to them for taking on the local planners and winning. It's a lot of additional expense and particularly time in going to An Bord Pleanála.

What exactly is a card club, can someone describe the experience. Above Mulroy's is that not a card club ?

It's my understanding that it will be a similar type of set up as the one above Mulroys.

Poker games (tournaments early evening and late night cash games) as well as a bit of Blackjack and Roulette maybe.

Well worth checking out if you're in Castlebar this weekend. Something for everyone but especially great if you have little ones that need entertaining:

    http://www.con-telegraph.ie/news/roundup/articles/2018/04/18/4154834-all-set-for-an-explosion-of-creativity-and-adventure-at-love-lannagh-2018-/

THE entirely free, boutique festival. Love Lannagh, is happening next weekend, April 21 and 22.

Nestled in the tree clearings with views overlooking Lough Lannagh, two intimate stages will showcase 14 live music performances.

The eclectic programme includes rock, trad, pop, folk, blues, bluegrass, jazz and classical and for vinyl lovers, some of the regions top DJ's take over the cranny stage on Sunday afternoon for the chillout sessions.

Love Lannagh is set to become an adventure playground with giant land games, an urban beach, silingshot challenge and a whole "raft" of watersports.

On Saturday festival goers can kayak, S.U.P. canoe, or even Dragon Boat their way around the lake without getting wet!

The Crafty Cabin will host a variety of visual arts workshops on Saturday and Mayo Brickx Club on Sunday. Wander down to The Cranny for a Storyville Session or a music workshop. Test the limits of your creativity with Bricí Spraoí in the imagination playground.

2018 sees the exciting addition of the "Sensational Space,” a wonderful space for children with additional needs to explore, enjoy and escape.

For ducks and humans alike, Sunday is race day. The Greenway Games Lannagh Quest is a new addition to the festival, described as parkrun meets crystal maze, you can run the 4.333K route flat out or take your time solving a series of interactive clues, puzzles, conundrums and games on the circuit and earn minutes off your race time. There is also a mini quest for family groups to enjoy together.

When you're entirely worn out, you can kick back in the food court and enjoy Mayo's finest street food.

You can check out the full lineup and schedule of events on www.lovecastlebar.com. You won't want to miss a thing!

How can a small regional, rural town like Castlebar sustain two card clubs ?

I think the club on Main St will be moving down to Linenhall St as oppossed to a second one opening up

All that's needed now is a Gentleman's Club in the old pub next door to it, the buses might start coming into Castlebar then.

Sorry but this must be a bad joke or otherwise they have no clue about the town or business, calling it the "Store of Happiness" does it no favors, not to mention the area is devoid of footfall, it must be nearly 2 decades since JB did any type of profit there.

I would give it less then 6 months, plus they have apartments upstairs, so they can only use the ground floor which was always oddly laid out even 20 plus years ago, nothing but steps everywhere.

I assumed the Happiness Store was some kind of quirky fun gimmick related to the Love Lannagh festival tbh.

Odd name but a quick search indicates it's an upcycled furniture shop

What a terrible location for an actual business. Wish them well but it's going to be very hard from there.

don't think the location is too bad for a furniture shop

Where is it? I don't think furniture shops need somewhere with footfall, people tend to be be ok driving out to them.
