Serious issues with IEC application.

    Hi all!

I'm not 100% sure if these issues have been brought up before, feel free to facepalm if they have. But I'm having some problems with the whole application.

I went through ICE without a problem and I have my CAL. In the sticky thread it says that this CAL is valid for 3 months. However, CAL clearly says it's only valid until July 22nd (See file attached.)

This is a massive pain in the arse. I was originally planning on travelling to Canada probably in September to try and get a job in the mineral exploration sector but I was unexpectedly offered a Masters in the UK. Seeing as I'd already started the process, I thought I'd get the letter of entry, sit on it for a year and enter in September 2016 when I'm finished my Masters. I couldn't go a minute before. Seeing as how the turnaround on these applications is roughly a month and they are valid for a year from the date of issue, I don't want to submit my application until as late as possible. At least until late August/early September.

Now, the CAL says I have to submit it by 22nd July. Which means I'll likely get my letter of entry by late August which means I HAVE to enter by late August 2016 which as I said, is extremely difficult seeing as how that's the time I'll be busy finishing up my MSc thesis.

To add a further wrinkle, the CIC application (which I've started) says that I have up to sixty days to apply.

So here's the problem, I have three contradictory sources which say when I have to apply by.

    1) The sticky thread on this forum says I have 90 days from the CAL to start the CIC process and then 60 days to finish the CIC.

    2) The CAL itself says I have 15 days to submit the entire application from receipt of the CAL.

    3) The CIC says I have 60 days presumably from the start of the CIC process.

Infuriatingly, the turnaround on queries for CIC is 28 days so they're useless. I don't know to contact next about clarifying this. What do we think?

Secondly, if the 15 day limit is true then I never had a chance to begin with. As far as I know, the process never once indicated that I'd need a garda clearance certificate which takes three weeks to get according to the Garda website. So they never mentioned it and then give me 15 days to get a certificate that takes 21 days to get? Maybe I'm just wrong and it did say it somewhere before.

I also have a third, technical issue. This could just be me being an idiot but whenever I try and upload my resumé to the CIC application it keeps failing. It doesn't tell me why it keeps failing. It's a PDF file like they said. The only thing I can think of is that the file is not named the way they want it to be named which is CV/Resume. The reason why it isn't named that way is because you can't include certain punctuation characters in a file name on Windows OS, "/" is one of these. So I literally cannot name it the way they want me to.

Sorry for the long thread! I'd really appreciate any help you can give me!

Am I just being an idiot who can't follow instructions? 3 votes

The IEC process changed significantly this year and times were reduced a lot. I guess the current moderator hasn't updated the sticky. The 14 days or whatever it says on your CAL is correct.

CIC is used for a variety of things, not just IEC visas. Unfortunately, the 60 days doesn't apply to the IEC any more. It is 15 days for this specific visa.

A police cert is normally issued in less than a week within Ireland. I think they can even do it on the spot if you go to the station and catch them at a good time. If you can't get it in time, you can upload a letter of explanation in its place and submit it ASAP.

It doesn't matter what you name your CV. Try renaming it to 'CV' (without the quotes) and try again.

At this stage, however, given all that you've said, I'd advise you to abandon your application. You can either apply again later in the year if there are still visas left (and given there are still nearly 1400 left, I'd say you're safe), or reapply next year. That way you don't have to worry about starting your visa before you finish your course.

I was afraid you'd say that. Well, cutting my losses seems the only step. I'll lose the 110 euro I've already put into it, but sure that's life. I'll reapply later in the year to give myself some more room.

So do I just let the CAL expire? And will all of my details still be saved on Kompass and CIC? That would be handy, means I could reapply instantly later on.
