I just got an email saying that my position on the waiting list for UCD is 2081 and I checked on the accommodation website how many places are available and it says there are 1135 for first years. Does this mean I have no chance of getting a room? What position on the waiting list did it go down to last year? Thanks

I'm 1179 on this years waiting list. As said before, lots of people just apply for the accommodation but won't actually go to UCD in Sept (especially as nobody has paid a deposit so far) - 'just in case' kind of approach. TCD is my first choice and UCD is my second so e.g. if I was offered TCD there would be one space more. I would say not to worry too much about it to be honest. The campus accommodation is expensive anyways and some people might reject it for that reason. It really seems pointless the new system - I'm not from Dublin (In fact 1 hour and 25 mins away) and to think that somebody from South Dublin living beside it could be 1-100 seems crazy. It really achieves nothing this 'new' system.

Yeah I'm in the same position actually. I have TCD first on the cao but I want to have accommodation arranged for UCD in case I get my second choice. I just don't know if 946 out of 2081 will reject a place. It is expensive but other private accommodation is even more expensive. Fingers crossed anyways! It is crazy because I live about as far away from Dublin as you could get and they don't take that into account at all. Trinity halls do at least take in to account where you're from.

I'm number 315. I'm pleased with that, but I'll have to see if I even get a course offer. The fees are probably also going to be an issue. :/

1,351. What do you think the threshold will be when everyone has booked? (after course changes and round offers etc)

I was looking at threads from previous years and people were saying that they got offers being in the 2000s. Hope??

Don't worry about your place on the list yet at all if you're below even 3000 - your rank on it now includes both people who took UCD off their CAO form, people who may only have thought of applying to UCD, people who won't get a place on their course AND people who will refuse a place due to cost.
Its too early to panic yet :)

I can tell you I was over 1500 and got my first choice accommodation as year. In previous years people as over 2000 got offered a place.

In addition, this year the entire on campus residences are allocated to first years.

You'll be fine, and probably get your first preference.

I'm number 1579 on the list, hopefully will get campus accommodation as I'm from Cork and haven't really thought about what I'd do if I don't.. I know that some of the people on the list won't get their course, will decide not to go to UCD etc. but I'm a bit worried as to whether there's 400 odd people like that :/

Also, if you do get on-campus accommodation, which would be the best for a first year with regards socialising and meeting people and so on.. I'm a lad and have no friends that'll be going to UCD so that's a big consideration

    Thanks !

Others who are far down on the list: What now? Are you guys looking for alternative accommodation now? Or are ye gonna wait and see what happens when offers come? I'm so stuck :/ Would it be easier to find off-campus accommodation now or in late August??

There's a more uptodate discussion on the "booking accommodation" thread, waitlist is going down quick since 9am.
