Big call as a bad defeat and the writing would be on the wall for him.

Lovren shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

Agreed he should be anywhere near the starting team.

If he drops him he won't recover whatever tiny bit of confidence he has left.

If he plays him and he has a mare that's him shot for the season.

If he plays him and he does ok that's just gives both of them big heads till the next fcuk up.

With Lazar on loan, and Ibe not looking quite ready for consistent responsibility, i'd still like another quick, skillful wing-forward type of player. We're actually pretty weak there - Ibe being the only one that gives natural width on the right, while we dont have anyone to offer it on the left, unless you count Moreno. Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino all more comfortable/effective pulling inside.

Also, a discernible style and approach would be nice...

    For United, I think i'd like;

    Mig
    Skrtel--Sakho
    Clyne----Lucas----Moreno
    Hendo---Milner
    Firmino
    Ings--Benteke

Lucas was awful against west ham, he was physically not up to it. The game passed him by as he went chasing after it.

Can would be a better option.

Never overlook the power of a redemption narrative. Lovren will be played by Jim Carey Dolph Lundgren in the movie, an obvious 'Oscar bait' career move.

I don't see Rodgers dropping Lovren for the Utd game.

That just reminded me if that lolfest last season, the lovren "clearence" and brad jones diving the wrong way for rooneys goal :pac:

Even with that, i'd still have Lucas every day of the week over Can in a role Can has never really impressed in for us. Ideally i'd rather a slightly more mobile upgrade on Lucas - but Lucas is the best specialised DM we have. I trust Lucas to up his game when it counts more than almost anyone else in the squad.

That just brings back to many painful memories when we had the best player in the world and now have a manager still living off what he did for the club.

    What a winner.

    When it counts?

I'd have thought a home game at Anfield after just being brought back into the team was when it counts?

It's not about upping his game for me, physically I don't think he has really recovered from his injuries. He is slower and after an hour was basically a passenger.

Can hasn't really impressed there but the only thing Man U have really managed to get right is their MF. Can't send someone in there based on the hope he'll find his legs.

Looks to be a busted flush to me, shame, I'd love to have the Lucas of old back but the current version looks like he is a long way off physically.

Da Gea gone, thats a big blow for Utd.

He's put in a handful of decent shifts I guess, but as with any defender who's a serious liability, he should be dropped so the problem can assessed.

He's made our other defenders look better.

I think if we'd played Sakho in the first 3 games, we'd have had the same results.

Lovren needs to be protected with other players staying close to him, otherwise he sh*ts the bed. That's not really a trait I like my starting CB to have.

The Suarez gifs are making me feel both happy in a nostalgic sort of way and pissed off at how downhill everything's went.

Other than Skrtel scoring as many goals as own goals for us has any defender done anything of note for us in the last three seasons.

Skrtel is seen as undroppable the last 3 years or so! That says a lot

Too much talk about De Jan Looverns in here for my liking today. Let's just forget about him for the week we have of international football.

Forest Whittaker was class in The Last King of Scotland, in all fairness.

Wouldn't mind ditching Skrtel and Lovren, and going with Gomez and Sakho at CB for the year, being honest.

Skrtel, I still don't rate as highly as some, and Lovren, well its hard to excuse him when he goes and makes mistakes like Saturday.

It'll probably never happen, but I think you've a shout of having to CB's there that can lay a foundation for the future, in Gomez and Sakho, and you can't really say the same for Skrtel and Lovren.
Honestly, I don't see Lovrenka being dropped for next week and, must as I dislike him playing for us, I would agree with starting him. If we don't then his confidence will be shot and we will get SFA for him next year.

Sakho is by far our best defender but his injuries are becoming a problem for a projected starting CB. I would prefer Illori and Sakho but with Illori going on loan, Toure should come into the equation before Gomez.

Especially worrisome when Skrtel has the same problem - great when he's not left too exposed, but if there's space to either side he's always liable to do something stupid - or else nothing at all.

Sakho's about the only one who can just cope with the game regardless of formation.

You naughty boy! You should still be in mourning today, no joy should be sought from anywhere, just reflect on Saturdays defeat and say two hail marys.

Edit : I'm in such a depression about the game I mistakenly thought it was only yesterday!

I don't see the point of playing players out of position, we have enough CB's without playing a midfielder there.

I think Can's long term future could be as a CB and not a midfielder.

My wife's uncle is a sports journalist based in Boston and Long Island, told me earlier the next Liverpool manager will be Klopp from whats hes been hearing, he fits FSG and Liverpool appeals to him. He explicitly said any run of bad results and Rodgers will be replaced.

Take it with a pinch of salt but the only other Liverpool stuff he ever told me was Brendan Rodgers would be the next Liverpool manager 100% when there was pictures of Henry and Martinez floating around.

It doesn't sound so far fetched. I do genuinely think Klopp has a lot of respect for Liverpool as a club with it's history and tradition. You only have to see him at Anfield last pre season when we played Dortmund in a friendly.

I can't see it, and why would you play him ahead of the likes of Ilori or Gomez. His defensive positioning is probably the worst part of his game imo, I don't like the idea of him even playing DM yet. He did well in a back three with Sakho and Skrtel for a while last year but it never looked natural for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,012 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

So when does Rodgers get the bullet and Klopp start the sooner the better.

Well clearly the manager doesn't rate Ilori at all or he wouldn't have been loaned out for two seasons and look like he is about to be loaned out again.

Gomez is a shout but I think he needs a break for a few games.

The position Can has played his best games for Liverpool since he joined are CB and CB is where he can read the game the best and be on the front foot something Brendan seems to like in a player.

Klopp is taking a few months out. This is why i was happy to give Rodgers another season. Give him a chance to turn things round and if it's not happening, there'll be a few managers available around Christmas time by all accounts.
