I received a €30 discount for signing up with Electric Ireland, however my VAT was calculated before the discount was applied, so I am paying VAT calculated on the amount before discount, rather than the amount after discount.

    Hi white apples,

    Thanks for your post.

The €30 discount would have been applied as a credit to your account as a whole, rather than against a specific bill (although it may have been noted on a bill). This is in contrast to the discounts on units used (e.g. the 15% off electricity and 11% on gas offered by our ValueReward priceplans). These are specific to individual bills, and would have VAT applied after they are factored in.

I hope this clarifies the difference. If you would like us to look into this further for you or have a look at your account, please send us the following details by private message:

    - Your full name
    - Your account number
    - The first line of your address
    - Your contact number or date of birth
    - Confirmation you are the account holder (a sentence stating this is sufficient)

    Thanks,
    David
