The break seems to be taking it very easily or else they're all just going backward. Majka appears to be pretty leisurely atm anyway

Interestingly they're not showing the time gap between himself and the front now

    1min 30 now.

Phenominal effort. Breakaway should stay out.

Between Majka, Dan and Tommy V. The effort of getting across might kill Dan's chance.

    Majka for me.

    2mins the last I saw

    1:05 per the tour's website.

Dan at 56 seconds now. Averaging over 20km/h going up the Col d'Aspin

    Vincenzo Nibali
Should catch them before they reach the top of Aspin

    Ryder Hesjedal
He looks warm but he is making ground and doesn't look close to red lining.

Down to 43, some time he is pulling out of them

    Ryder Hesjedal
26 now but he is waving a small bit, I presume from the heat

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

    Vincenzo Nibali
Less than 30 seconds I'd say now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 571 ✭✭✭Figsy32

What sort of gap does the break have? Should it stay away for the day?

    Unreal from Dan. Phenomenal cycling.

Dan make it onto the back of the group. 7.17 mins ahead, with 73km to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,849 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Absolutely amazing. I hope he isn't totally spent

TG4 is obviously slightly lagging, he can see the group and is speeding up but they still look about 5 seconds away.

Boom, and he looks in better shape than the rest

Majka looks incredibly easy on the bike atm. Considering Dan's effort, I'd say he's definitely in the best shape now. Dan should sit up now, eat and rest up.

Tg4 and ITV4 are virtually the same.

Good man Dan, he has slotted i and is just resting with them,

That break has to stay away now, 7 minutes with 70km, and the peloton are nicely dragging Sky

I was online, everyone said he caught them but the TV showed he still had a tiny bit left but it was all but inevitable at that point, he seemed to make a nice jump in speed with no effort.

Tommy Vs attempt failed badly there

Just tuning in now. What kind of distance did he have to go to bridge to the break?

    Good attack there

Time gap of 7'30 when they bridged the climb, very nice

So many saying ridiculous bridging across for Dan

Now has a great chance for KOM and hopefully the stage

a grand total of zero people said that. I said its most likely futile (and am happy to be wrong) and one other comment frustrated he didn't go when gap was 1 minute. that's the grand total of comments neither of which were overly negative.

    But carry on

Don't think so, I think the amount on offer today is about 10 short of the leader. Could be wrong

No not possible only 45 points on offer of which he cant even get em all due to first 2 climbs. he can move to second though and wear the polkadots as froom will be in yellow

EDIT Just did the calculation at best Dan will be 1 point behind Porte in 3rd after todays stage.

Oddly enough, he seems to have made the right choice, if he went earlier he could have had it dragged out of him, this way while he received no benefits, he didn't have weaker riders trying to use him.

I wonder was it a call by Dan of now or never or if the team had figured out, this can be done, he can do it and this is the right time.

Froome is on 51, there are 42 points on offer if you win all the mountain sprints today.

Yeah Froome got 50 alone for the win yesterday so Dan has a bit to do yet
