What does this mean? In the process of shopping for a new tv and saw one on Pixmania which had this in bold letters at the bottom, also mentions its an import which Im not sure if it is something I should be concerned about.

    Pixmania Samsung TV

According to the specs in that link it has DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C tuners.

Saorview doesn't use DVB-T2 in any case. Used by Freeview in the UK for the HD channels, via an aerial, and here if within range of a UK transmitter e.g. NI or Wales.

That's a European import as it "requires a mains adapter for the UK"

thanks to you both for the info...

any thoughts on the TV itself? the last TV I bought was in 2000 and am relatively clueless. We're looking for a flat panel 55" and that's all we know.

Indeed but since Jan 1st this year it is part of Saorview approval.

Wrong. It requires its plug removing and replaced with a UK/Irish type. Adapters invariably do not conform to any countries specs and are dangerous on any load larger than a shaver.

I wonder if this set does MHEG. No mention of it in the specs.
Lots on UHD but no mention that there are no transmissions and unlikely to be for a long time.
Note upscaling won't make HD UHD. You cannot generate what is not there.

Better to get a good HD set.

This television has technology that will possibly will never be deployed in Ireland.

That does not mean it is a bad thing. It has capabilities that are only being tested in parts of Europe (UHD).

It will work in Ireland as it is more than ticks the boxes for receiving Saorview and HD Satellite (both terrestrial and satellite tuners built in), but it can do so much more where UHD broadcasts exist.

It will also play codecs and decrypt broadast standards of the future (H265).
