if you're coming down the main cork road then maybe the mcdonalds at cashel?? from cork to kenmare is about an hour, ballincollig is just outside cork city and there is a shopping centre in the centre of the village with different shops and restaurants

You could make an adventure of this and stay off the Motorway and take the more scenic rural routes.
Once you've decided on your intended actual route for driving, have a look also in the Regional fora here for the 'Things to do In' there areas :)

You could always take the Motorway home to , you know, shorten that aspect but keep it fun & adventurous en route to Destination/Kenmare.

    Happy Travels,

a hidden jem on the way down from Dublin to Cork is the "Swiss Cottage".

Its not far at all off the motorway and would make a nice break. You could maybe then just have lunch or whatever in Cahir which is a nice town to stop off in from what I remember of it.

If you want to get a little farther down the road, theres a really good pet farm with plenty of play opportunities at Watergrasshill on the approaches to Cork City, again not far off the motorway. http://tirnasi.com/
They also have a cafe there to make a proper break of it.

theres also a mc donalds there, which I have faint memories of seeing a play area in.

Actually, theres a REALLY good playground in Ballincollig in the Regional Park which seems to be savage altogether. Only new so havent tested it yet, but will have the kids there in a few weeks if its not raining when we are passing through ourselves.

Theres 3 exits off the dualcarraigeway so you need to take the middle one as the slightly shorter way by coming off the first exit and going through the village (of 20,000 people!) can be very slow at the best of times.
