I built my own PC ages ago, I have been saving for ages, anyway I'd love a to go and get a good rig to play games on max or near it, I do a fair bit of photoshop stuff but the rest is mainly Indesign.

Its been awhile now since I last looked at hardware, I know Id need an SSD for OS then what ever for storage. I would be out of the loop and would really appreciate any advise!
    1. What is your budget? [€1500-2000]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/Video editing/Internet] (BF4 to new Doom/ GTA)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [Hard drive/DVD Drive/Case/PSU/etc.] I have a Thermaltake Armor Case, TBH I think the parts are just too old now so I might just have this PC as an internet PC/Storage

    5. Do you need a monitor? [No]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? no

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [No]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/]

    9. When are you purchasing? [In 30 days or there abouts]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [Co Louth]

    Xeon 1231v3 €250
    H97 board €90
    500gb SSD €175
    R9 390 €350
    500w PSU €60
    2tb HDD €80
    16gb RAM €100
Give €100 for a case. Nanoxia DS3 recommended.
    Total €1200 roughly.

    Windows is €20 from reddit.

Could boost GPU way up given budget but at 1080p there's no need imo

Visit www.reddit.com and search for sellers offering windows keys for sale. I got MS office 2013 pro for $30......i actually got 2 keys by error, so i was able to upgrade my old pc to the new software. It took a couple of days to get an active seller, but it was so worth it.

I'd recommend a 970 for 1080p, but honestly, a 390 is pretty much the same performance wise so it's not a "wrong" choice ;) at 1080p (better at higher reses though).

I'd probably go with gumbi too. Performance is not a factor. So let it fall to driver support. Which personally I think NVidia keep ontop of better.

Just my opinion from using both.

Keep your sli options open when getting a mobo.
And Up the psu to a 600w or the be quiet 7 700. Don't need a 700 but the 600 w costs near enough the same.

    RE REDDIT,

    is this guy legit? (http://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/comments/2v4awh/h_all_keys_windows_7881_office_20131011_mac_visio/)

Looks pretty solid although you'd be better with 2x8gb for your ram.

That seller looks legit although I haven't got personal experience with him as I used a different one for mine.

I'd dial back the power supply, 850w is nowhere near necessary. I'd get a bigger SSD as well. Go with a 250GB minimum. Only get a 980Ti if you've a 1440p or 4K monitor. At 1080p it'll be a waste.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,034 ✭✭✭goz83

I got my key from https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/comments/3dpfm1/h_windows_7_8_81_servers_office_visio_project/

very good guy to deal with. I got no reply from the WexforIRL dude.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Don't need an 850w for that. I'd say 600-650 Max but I'm hungover so someone should clarify for me hopefully.

980Ti is a lot for 1080p, if you're willing to splash it'll carry you for a good while but a 970 now and a 970 equivalent in 2 years will work out cheaper and likely run for longer

I also used s5ean guy, was fine to deal with.
When i reinstalled windows recently the key failed so i contacted him and he sent another, that also failed but he sent on yet another and that worked, seems fine to deal with.

The failed key may have been the extra key he sent me when I was uploading the iso :D

I'd recommend using amazon, dabs, scan, overclockers, komplett or anything other than hardwareversand. Your budget allows you the option of paying a little more for security and easy warranty fulfilment.

    Looks like a cool build!

Only thing that jumps out at me are those monitors. 3D is kinda... not great. Maybe think about nice IPS monitors instead, and get a VR headset later on. 3D TN just isn't worth investing in, IMO.

Oh, and the SSD. With anything SATA-based, the performance is basically identical. I'd go with a 500GB BX100 from crucial (best price/perf ratio), or if you're really nuts, jump up to a 750 series PCIE drive from Intel. Those things are wicked fast.

I wont be goin down the 3D thingy, I picked them mainly for 144hz, IPS will they not have motion blur?

PCIE drive  the price of them yokes

That stretched the budget a little :pac:

    32gb ram and X99? Necessary?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

16GB of RAM may be better 4 x 4GB sticks. Nice monitors as well. I prefer TN panels myself for the fast response times.

Who needs logic when you're spending this much money

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

Honestly, gaming wise, might yeild just slightly better
results than a rig with a few cost saving measures.

    a cheaper board z97. 140
    Cheaper cpu 250 xeon
    16 gb ddr3 Ram 100
    Case Nanoxia 100

But I think it might bother you not goin with what you set out. So for that sake go nuts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

TN will give you slightly better response times yes. Having gamed on both types quite a bit, I don't notice any difference at all. You can also go for ASUS' new PG279Q, which is an extremely fast, 144Hz IPS panel monitor. They're not cheap though.

Honestly, spending that much money and getting TN monitors... To each his own, but it feels like a waste.

Ignore the Intel ones, Samsung's SM951 are much closer to normal SSD prices.
