    Hi.

I rooted my S2 years ago and it was a huge learning curve/mine field and now my S4 is getting slow due to being full of bloat ware, update and my information.

It took me days to be able to get my head around rooting my S2, how can I root my S4 properly please.

Thought someone would have replied by now.
What firmware is it on ?
Try towelroot or kingroot first, after that you might have to look into other ways of rooting but these are your easy options. Try them first.

Also I take no responsibility for what may or may not happen etc etc.

I think towelroot is gone for Lollipop...

the Dev GeoHot is now employed by Google, closing the exploits which he used...:P

Kingroot is OK, if you can replace it with Supersu afterwards, there may be scripts available on-line to do this.

Kingroot will install Chinese Apps which "phone home"....

    There is also Framaroot.......

although not sure if it works on S4??

    Chainfire method works fine.
The download contains an older version of odion but the effect is the same. If you are having an issue with the flash it could be your provider has locked up the exploit. Try installing it vanilla version of the OS (No network BS) and try rooting.
Another option is clearing out the cash (via boot folder) to speed up the phone
