5 years was it out dated.

When I pulled up a beauty of a 2010 M3 that had lower standard spec than my own cheap lexus.

Think I mentioned this about 1 million times now..

Oh come on, who are you calling a fanboy? had a read through this thread, think I can say you seem to be the biggest fanboy going.
An M3 does not compare, so stop using that as a comparison. My own car is fast, fairly rare on these roads, wont see me starting a ridiculous thread like this.

excuse me now. A poster clearly said a lexus was about 5 years outdated.

so, some googling pulled up a fine specimen of a 2010 M3, lovely car no doubt. The standard specification (as in INTERIOR specification) was rather miserable.

So I compared this to a ISF, which is a direct competitor to the aforementioned M3, and hello hello, the ISF pretty destroys it. So that 5 year outdated seems, well optimistic.

Indeed my own car has as much (even more, I hate to annoy some people) interior spec than a standard 2010 M3. Indeed this is comparable to Audi also where much of the stuff on a Lexus is standard, its an extra for them.

A poster a while back cleared up this as far too many people are speaking in spite rather than actual fact. And then you have other posters harping on about IS220Ds and oh, 7 series BMWs with cappuccino makers and LWB S Classes with helipads.. even throwing in Jags, Austin Martins and, well hurley's (which is a good thing, you should never forget your roots and all that)

Have you always had the Lexus OP, I see you had a 316i but I'm genuinely curious as to what other cars you had up until you git the 250, and what you'd replace it with (I'm gonna guess ISF)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Hachiko

Subaru Legacy 2.0, Few Hondas, the uselsss 316i which was 90% of its time in a garage.

I am looking at ISFs, mainly due to rarity, reliability, build quality and a beauty of a V8. But only 2010 models. All down to cost. Am going to see next year.

ISF destroys M3? That's an interesting viewpoint ;)

On a lower level the one way I can see your IS destroy the competition is emissions / tax. Not very fast, but max €2,350 tax in this country because of its ancient technologies used

A same year also N/A 6 cylinder RWD BMW 325i would be more powerful, a lot faster and just €570 to tax. And would use about 40% less fuel

Was there even one new IS250 sold new in 2008 (after the tax change) in this country?

There were 9 sold after July in 08. There was a sack load of discount off them in june 08 though. Especially the manual sport ones IIRC as the emissions are higher than the auto (I think)

There were none sold between January and the end of May 08.

OP, have you been driving long? I don't think so.

Reason I ask is you seem to miss a logical explanation for the tailgating being that the focus was following you as you were doing a decent pace and you would be the one to be stopped by at a speed check rather than him. A common occurrence throughout the world.

Although I suppose your fairyland story is a better story for the lads down the pub(who probably run a mile when they see your smug face coming). your attitude reminds me of those clowns who come home from Australia at Christmas looking down at everyone and who listen to nobody because they are too busy telling everyone how great their life is.

i used to do that a fair bit when i was younger and dumber and used to say i was getting the car in front 'to run interference for me' :D

Rare enough occurrence but if someone does pass me making good progress, but not reckless speed, basically someone who drives like me but happens to be going a little faster, then I fall into step at a reasonable distance. Let them be meeting any speed traps first and waking up any vegetative state drivers.

Is it better than a BMW 535d? We all know that's an M3 beater too...

the performance over a IS250 is hardly earth shattering in fairness, you are correct that tax is very bad on the manual IS250 for some reason. (something I can live with)

as for specification, clearly a ISF comes in 1 specification only (a sunroof is the only delete option AFAIK), this single specification shares many creature comforts with a SEL (Yes, I know the ISF has a Big V8, big calipers, big wheels, uprated suspensions, LSD. yadda yadda!)- these are not to be found on a stock M3 year circa 2010. As checked by me, unless someone can confirm otherwise.

As for performance, a ISF is at least pretty even or better in a head on with a M3.

Now, moving onto 325s, I actually did look at these on autotrader but did not spend much time as surprisingly enough I could not get any with any sort of kit that a SEL Lexus has for anything near the money I was to spend on cars in or around 08/09.

That and the less than stellar reliability of BMWs coupled with the fact you see at least a few hundred on your weekly outings on the roads.

For me the Lexus had more toys, was in my budget, was uber reliable, comfortable, and rather more exclusive to own than aforementioned BMW.

driving probably longer than most on here tbh. I see this Focus driver is still in the headlines this morning, bless him.

Clearly I could have blasted him away if I put the foot down but I was not exactly in Ireland to race/get some squad lights flashing at me.

can we by any chance move along swiftly from this now?

Where are you seeing this. I reckon you're talking at least 40k euro to bring in a 2010 ISF.

It's like you're trying to convince everyone else you made a giant leap forward for mankind, that you've progressed rapidly on the evolutionary path by picking an IS250 with lots of features as standard and everyone else is a knuckle dragging ape because they can't see the genius of your car choice.

It's a small Lexus. It's a nice car, but really, it's not that special. Neither are you. It's NOT an exclusive or remarkable car. In a few years time, it'll be just another luxobarge thread entry and nobody will care any more or less than they do today.

    Ancient technologies, which stay working.
I had an E90 325i, the 3 litre one. It was the worst f**king piece of f**king sh*t and broke my f**king heart. Not BMW nor BMW specialists could find anything wrong. 1 owner car, 50k miles, full BMW history, and a ball of dung. New technology is all well and good, if you don't farm the manufacturing out to the lowest bidder.
That BMW "bong" still gives me shudders. There isn't one BMW engine in the last 10 years that doesn't have something wrong with them. Every one has something to watch out for. And when they go wrong, you might as well get a can of petrol and a lighter.
I'd happily put a few extra bob petrol into an IS250. Oh, and the E90 non-msport seat is an insult to anything above a Sandero. Premium my h*le.
Nice sounding engine when it was working though, lovely handling car, nice steering. Runflats are a balls. 6.9 secs to 60 is decent too. However, it takes around 20 seconds to get from 0-50 mph on the back of a flat-bed.
I hate E90's... (apart from the E92 M3, I do love that V8, despite what the I6 enthusiasts say!!).
So to sum up, next time I spend money on a 6 cylinder car, it'll hail from Japan. Also, if I do delve into BMW world again it'll be E39 or earlier. At least folk know how to fix those!

Well it definitely is exclusive in the sense not many have them, how many is250s have you seen this past month? I have seen zero from my trip from Kerry to south east England so far.

Is it making me a celebrity or make me special ? Not really. It's just nice that not everyone has one.

There it is in a nutshell.

Apart from a badge on the back, what tells anyone that your IS250 is anything at all different from any other IS2XX car? Nothing to any kind of casual observer.

All the things you list are driver comfort features.

An M3/M5, they draw attention because they're very obviously different even to a casual observer with styling cues etc. Yours doesn't. It's a nice car. It may have a very high level base spec but you need to wake up if you think it's exclusive. You're reading too many owner reviews if you think it's exclusive.

You're right. That is clearly the most sensible conclusion here. The focus driver tailgated you to have a much closer look at the back of your relatively inconspicuous Lexus.

Maybe it was the spoiler that gave him the impression it was in fact a somewhat special car.

People like you are harping on about specification. A Lexus ISF and IS250 have very similar specification, not that you know anything about it. The F gets the ML as standard (not an optional extra), it also gets the pre crash collision and radar cruise standard.

anyhoo, even a relatively new 2010 M3 as I pointed out has poor basic specification compared to a SEL.

I wont go to the trouble of looking at a 325M sport but again I would be surprised if it had anything extra over a SEL that came as standard based on what I seen on a M3.
As it happens, the ISF has a bit over 400bhp. Really the dog's cojones.

    .

I saw one this morning. Dropped in behind it coming from the M1 to the M50, it came from the Airport Roundabout to go on to the M50. Only noticed it because it had tinted rear windows and a nice set of wheels. 2008 reg, in black with the much coveted 250 badge on the back.

It was no where near remarkable enough for me to chase it on to the M50. Looked quite well in black, with nice wheels and tinted rear windows, but I did think "meh". Probably because I've driven one.
