So this chap is in the news again, for allegedly duplicating expenses

Ive met him before, didnt think much of him, anyway, Im fluent in Irish, and I must say his Irish is not up to scratch for his office, if he so choses to use it for such. This whole "needs to be bilingual" tribunal thing is a load of poppycock, and I for one am glad to see that he will be brought to account

The use of the Irish language issue to try and avoid charges is not unusual. It is particularly damaging to the language because if there is a high profile case that somebody escapes justice on, there will be a strong backlash against the language.

There won't. The people who hate Irish will use it as an opportunity to reinforce their prejudices and attack a minority. The next day they'll move on to something else marginal and weaker to hate. Haters are going to hate, and bullies are going to bully.

The rest of us will just take that for what it is and move on.
