Google search HTC M8

When I use the Google search bar to look up something and then open the relevant website my phone doesn't open this as a new tab in the Google chrome app. So when I exit the website it's gone. I have to search it again. Whereas before with my M7 it would be opened as a new tab in the Google chrome…

Hi all,
I've a HTC M8. When I use the Google search bar to look up something and then open the relevant website my phone doesn't open this as a new tab in the Google chrome app. So when I exit the website it's gone. I have to search it again. Whereas before with my M7 it would be opened as a new tab in the Google chrome app. Is this just a setting? Can anybody help me out?
