Is AMD crossfire worth it?

    Currently running the following:

    - MoBo: MSI P67A-GD55 (B3), Intel P67, ATX, DDR3
    - CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155
    - GPU: Club 3D Radeon HD 7970 royalQueen, 3GB GDDR5
    - RAM: 8GB-Kit Corsair DDR3 PC1600 C9 Classic
    - HDD 1: Crucial M4 128GB SSD

    Bought far Cry 4 recently and my rig is defiantly becoming out dated.

    Not to much spare cash these days and I was wondering would it be worth buying a 2nd hand 7970 for 150 to 200 euro on Adverts instead of a new card for 400 to 500 quid.

    What do you guys reckon? I had a bad experience with SLI a number of years ago and swore I would never run dual GPUs again, but would the performance increase be worth it for for only a couple of hundred quid?

    SLI-crossfire isn't worth it. That might change with DX12, but you're at least 2 years before its in mainstream use.

    It depends on what your needs are. Honestly, for 1080p, an overclocked 7970 (and you have a nice model) isn't bad.

    I wouldn't bother, it's not worth the potential headache if you are on 1080p, not to mention, don't spend 200 quid on a 7970! I sold my top notch aftermarket 7950 about 6 months ago for 135 quid... I wouldn't spend more than 140-150 on a 7970 myself.

    Save up some more cash and grab a 970/290 (or Nano maybe? We'll see how that does soon enough) in a few months.

    I agree, sell 7970 for €160-ish. Buy new R9 290 for €300. Massive upgrade for €140 and no headaches with potential crossfire issues - and more importantly you have a brand new card with full warranty.

    A single 7970 at 1080P should still be able to play Far Cry 4 at ultra settings though.
