    Hi All,

Moving to Marlton Hall soon and was hoping for some help as to what:
    1. Broadband
    2. TV services

are available in the area? I rang eircom and they told me I needed to get a phone line installed before they can tell me what I can get, I have never heard of paying for something before you know what it is before in my life :)

Hoping someone can help me out with some info/recommendations ?

    thanks in advance!

    Sky for TV.

I personally wouldn't touch Eircom. We had huge trouble with them when we moved down and a lot of messing around. Were with Vodafone who are grand but Wed prob go to sky if we weren't under contract.

Thanks Lara, and do you know what kind of speeds you get with Vodafone?

I see a lot of Sky dishes in the estate already so I was guessing Sky was best bet

Sky is your only option for TV really.
    Perhaps ditto for BB.

I'm in a different area of the town and have a reliable 11-12mbps.

Thanks BoJack, that's pretty good, I hear Wicklow town will be getting the new ESB broadband end of this year or start of next, so thats something to look forward to I guess :)

The speed you'll get on eFiber depends how close your house is to the fiber cabinet your line goes via. Hence eirocm wont make any predictions about speed until the line is in place and they know how long/good it is. It's ridiculous, but you have to take a punt and see what happens. If you're lucky you'll get an engineer who will tell you which cab and roughly the speeds neighbours get. I get 85Mbs down, 19Mbs up with Eircom in Rathnew/Wicklow but had no clue what I'd get when I signed up as there was no active line in my house.

they do have a rough idea as they run prequalification checks on all lines - you can find out by putting your phone number in on their website.

If you have a line with a number. If there's no line in the property, I dont know how you can run it against the prequal db. I think in theory they can check an inactive line but refused when I asked.

well I asked the guy to run a test on another house in the estate, but he said there was none, a quick online phonebook check showed a couple of numbers in the estate. I have since tried those numbers on the eircom phone line check website, but it doesn't work, its hard to find stuff out these days!

    Hi
I just spent week waiting on eircom to come out connect phone so I could get it tested for broadband and tv. They connected the line on Friday morning the engineer said there was an e-fibre running from the house, rang eircom on Friday afternoon to get it tested they said there was no fibre tried to cancel, instead they put me through to technician convinced me to try it again Monday. Rang eircom Monday they said still no e-fibre!! Eircom are just pain in backside. Too much messing around so going to try imagine for and getting sky for TV. Sorry for little rant haha

Just wanted to follow up, went with Vodafone "simply broadband" for 38 per month all in. Speed is up to 25 meg and I'm glad to report I'm getting 2.4 megabit per second so 24 out of 25 meg which is nice.
