Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Euthanasia for barking?

Did anyone see this petition going around on Facebook recently? It's about a dog who was allegedly barking all night so the neighbour brought the family to court. The judge ordered the dog to be euthanised on the neighbour's word (no physical evidence) and the family have been granted an appeal until October so they're sending around a petition to save their dog.

I'm not sure what a petition will do, but has anyone heard of this happening before? Even if the dog was a nuisance barker, is this actually a good way to deal with it? <snip> Mod note: Links to petitions not allowed

Since we're only hearing one side of the story I'd take it with a pinch of salt but I'm finding it difficult to not be disgusted over this. What's next? Next door's baby cries when I'm working at 5am so I petition a judge to evict them? Or "Sorry Your Honour but my teenage neighbour was jamming out at 1am so I shot him, you understand right?"

    My mind is boggling.

Yeah, I'm a little skeptical myself.

Legally a judge can only issue a destruction order under 2 circumstances:

    1. Where the owner has been convicted of an offence and banned from keeping dogs
    2. Where the judge has been satisfied that the dog in question is "dangerous and not kept under proper control"

    The "and" being important there.

In the case going around facebook, the judge cannot have made a destruction order just for barking. So either they have a really crap solicitor, or more likely, they're not telling the full story.

    Folks,
There has already been a thread on this topic, now closed until the appeal is done.
    Thanks,
