Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Need Some help with Hedgehogs

We have a number of hedgehogs in our garden, they move from the back to front from times to search for food, and do whatever hedgehogs do... we counted 4 babies and one adult.

Now we have no issue with them and it's quiet a sight to watch them in the garden, if it wasn't for the incident today i wouldn't even bother posting this and would leave them do their thing.

Anyway, this morning my brother spotted two strangers with cages and hedge cutters on our property, we suspect they we're trying to capture the hedgehogs, they fled once they saw my brother...

Now I'm just wondering who do i call to remove the hedgehogs and rehabilitate them, I really don't want these guys capturing them and doing god knows what with them..

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Well Id be calling the Guards for starters, then maybe call the local SPCA or wildlife rescue and see what they advise?

I cant imagine why people would be trespassing with cages and hedge cutters to steal hedgehogs though?!

Not sure why anyone would be trapping hedgehogs, surely more likely trapping badgers? There's a sanctuary in Clare, https://m.facebook.com/TheHogsprickle?_rdr and http://thehogsprickle.weebly.com/ Their site says ring as they aren't online constantly. Ring and ask for advice. Hopefully there's nothing to worry about, but it's good of you to care.

+1 to calling The Hogsprickle, Bev who runs it is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, and will be able to advise and offer help.

African pygmy hedgehogs fetching €200+ would be a good reason. Buy a baby hedgehog and how are you to know whether its a pygmy or bog standard Irish one. Like them people who thought they were getting micro pigs.

It's a little too late now, but we're on the look out and if they do return i'll call the Gardai then.

I'll give this a look, I rather they we're cared for by people who know what they are doing.
