Oh gods I don't know how to help I'm afraid, McAfee products used to be diabolical and I'd never go near them. They were also harder to get rid of than the clap. They're VASTLY improved though since Intel bought them in 2010.

Tell your brother he's a fking idiot. Windows Security Essentials (which is 100% free for Windows 7 and lower, just keep it up to date with an auto scheduler - it's built into Windows 8 and above), Malwarebytes (also 100% free - run a scan every week or two) and common sense will keep any Windows PC clean and tidy.
