    Hi All,

My parents have two dogs that, due to ill health, they can't give much time to give them the time and treatment they deserve.

Just looking to see if there are any dog homes around that ye have used or know of that could help us.

Its with a heavy heart that we have to give them away so we are looking for the best porrible place for them.

Unfortunately due to work obligations,my wife and I cant take them.

What's wrong with mahon CSPCA? My neighbour got two beautiful rescue dogs from there in the last year. All properly treated and brought back to health by the vets.

I just would not have much faith in that they will hold onto the dogs for a while if they could not find a home.. Have been there myself twice for help and the vets next door aswell and have to say I walked away unimpressed would never dream of recommending them or taking my own there

But why? Just a fuzzy feeling, or did you see something specific that you took issue with?

The first time I called in there to both of them, called into the RSPCA place as I was passing and they told me go next door to the vet. I had found a bird I kinda knew what to do, but said as I was passing they might help him more. So called into the vets and she was clue-less just looking at me going what (it was actually like she was stoned) and just looked at the bird, I asked maybe if they had any food mix and she went to google to see. I asked her was she googling it and she just looked into space so I walked out.

Next experience with them was with a kitten, came wondering into our place at Christmas.

Didn't mind looking after him but he had worms and I wanted to check his eye as we have a kitten too.

So yet again said I would give them both another chance, went to the vets place first, blonde behind the counter was like what do you want me to do. I asked could she scan him to see if he was chipped, she stuck her hand into the box and waved it around and said no. I asked about worming and his eye and it was like asking a child for a sweet. She said go next door, (she was closing for the evening and wanted to get out) I walk in next door and they are just closing the door and tell me go away, meet the blonde on the way back and I said they closed she was all oh yeah forgot to tell you that.

Took the kitty to dec the vet and they gave him shots, wormed him, gave him eye treatment properly checked him out for €20

a friend took her dog up there and was told they would keep it for two weeks before putting down, a week later he was not there and lets say he wasn't taken away either.

So needless to say I think the two of them are utterly rubbish..

AFAIK surrendered dogs can be PTS same day

    This.

If you're surrendering a dog to an already over crowded shelter they don't stand a chance. Loads of great rescues around the place. Many of them are on Facebook. Dog Action Welfare as mentioned already, Pauline's Rescue, Mallow Animal Rescue etc...

Also bare in mind that most of the rescues are pushed to the brim at the moment too so it might take them some time to re-home the dogs or find a suitable foster home.

Best of luck, I hope ye find them a great home :).

    A few suggestions/questions!
What age breed etc are the dogs? In what was are your parents struggling? Are the dogs neutered/housetrained/socialised?
If they are certain that they wish to rehome them then I would say get them neutered first and ask a rescue if they would help you advertise while you hold on to the dogs
Also conduct a thorough home check

some good advice there liquoriceall.. It can be very expensive to do these things so it will be an added extra as such when re-homing them. You could ask whichever home you go with (if money wasn't there) who they use and they might give you a discounted price. Or like that Dec the vet in Douglas is very nice.

Best of luck rehoming them I hope it works out now

CSPCA in Mahon has improved big big time, so that would be an option (i would have said the exact same a few years ago tho but serous improvement going on there)

EDIT: they don't put dogs down, that would be cork county pound but CSPCA actually gets dog out of there now as well to help rescue them (depends on how full they are I think)

Well it was only last year I had my wonderfull experiences with them, was all up for giving them second chances but they have burnt that bridge..

I have also heard the CSPCA have improved a lot recently. Never had a bad experience with them anyway, but I had heard stories. We got our dog from there 3 years ago and had no problems!

There is also a Facebook Page for rehoming pets in Cork. Might be worth checking out!

I used to hear terrible stories about the CSPCA, but I've also heard recently that they have improved exponentially. It seems like they are more involved in cruelty cases now too.

Just stay away from the County Pound.
