“I’m not really a crier. I tend to cry when it’s really called for. I don’t tend to turn them on."

That's informative. He doesn't pretend to cry, it's totally true when you see the tears flowing. What a genuine man.

Sam MacCarthy and Liam Maguire, great lads the pair of them.

I would ask did he really say "Sam McCarthy", but I know the clue is in the question. I wouldn't be surprised if he said the Sam McCauley Cup FFS.

And what about de Sam McConkey Cup?

(There could be one btw for all I know about sport)

It’s ‘getting emotional’ as Dez Cahill might say.

The Toy Show this year has been hyped more than the moon landings ffs.
Never heard something talked about as much on RTE and in the Irish press.

Edit: and what is the manchild doing in that photo, what the hell is he pointing at?

It seems me that he points a lot in his publicity photos. Obviously, nobody told him that it’s rude to point.

That photo of him looks very sinister, not in keeping with kindness vibes, toys, joy, warm hygge-ness. He's like Leonard Cohen risen from de grave and turned into de bogey man.

What the heck does anyone imagine IS de theme of this year's Boy Show?

Judging by the hat there, I’d not be surprised if it’s rat pack toy show theme, opening with white Christmas, “singing” badly about the ones he used to know. Whatever the official theme, the usual unashamed self promotion vehicle that is the toy show with the “toy man” at the helm will be rolled out.

He was born in the wrong era.

Can't see it being Rat Pack themed. Hardly a child-friendly theme!

If he's Bing Crosby, who's gonna be David Bowie?

Yeah he might do an opening number "White Christmas" with a frozen snowy outdoor hotel scene, then maybe a couple of cutesy girls, real sisters, will sing "Sisters". Child friendly would be the Drummer Boy duet with a competent singer that is something of a Bowie substitute (Nathan Carter, but he's stuck up north?) if keeping with the Crosby aspect and Christmas. But what was that hint about something being "delicious", some food reference?

Opening song will be 'creep' by radiohead.

    When you were here before
Couldn't look you in the eye
    You're just like an angel
    Your skin makes me cry
    You float like a feather
    In a beautiful world
    I wish I was special
    You're so ****in' special
    But I'm a creep
    I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
    I don't belong here
I don't care if it hurts
    I wanna have control
    I want a perfect body
    I want a perfect soul
    I want you to notice
    When I'm not around
    You're so ****in' special
    I wish I was special
    But I'm a creep
    I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here, oh, oh

Could be a Muppet Show “Singing in the Rain” type number.

    He mentioned Kermit yesterday

Any chance of him doing the musical he incessantly talked about in the earlier part of the year, "Hamilton" .....

    ...in blackface? :P

Edit: I swear to God, I wrote this last night as a draft. And this morning....here we are.
The guy is so f*cking predictable.

He’s in the Toy Show Zone, folks.

    Books. Children.

Just put this on RTÉ Junior where it belongs, not prime time radio.

I was actually thinking it was a nice story, but Ryan still managed to drag the misery angle into it - FFS

Jesus, is there a death angle to everything?
Thought the chat with the little girl was grand/cute. But was wondering where it was going...should have known.

Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy - Ryan says he never heard of it in spite of interviewing my cousin's husband (Mark Early) whose wife, my cousin, Liane Deasy, had died of SUDEP. How could he claim he never heard of it, when Mark did a brilliant interview with him to raise awareness for Epilepsy Ireland in the show?

I hope Ryan sees this post.

    And less of a personality.

I think he was hoping that she'd say he died from CV-19 so he could push that angle for a few minutes.

Seems inappropriate though to be quizzing the mother about her late husband and how it felt etc with the 9 year old daughter still on the line.
