Pat Kenny has a theory about this. Quoth the Great One, kitchen radios are more forgiving than car radios, ie people switch the channel a lot more on car radios. Therefore drivetime programmes are a lot more competitive than programmes that are played in the kitchen and the office, where people just tend to listen to the same station all day.

There's something in that. A lot of people don't bear Pat because they don't listen to Newstalk Breakfast in the kitchen. A lot of people only hear Ronan Collins because they have Sean Ó Rourke on in the office.

But people will flick around the channels on the drive home from work, in the car or on the phone.
I would agree with that. I flick between Newstalk and Radio 1 in the car, but the kitchen radio was retuned for the first time in years*, from Radio 1 to Newstalk, recently for the morning program.

    * not literally true, as the kids are constantly messing with it. But, I decided to change and took the trouble to locate Newstalk and that's going to be the default position for now.

    Cheeseboards and feminism.

Maggie thinks discrimination against women in the workplace is bad. What a revelation.

Not sure this show could be any more dull or pointless.

touche :D - the tune was the only bit that I welcome! the modern **** she has been playing up until now has been shocking. The ****e some 15 year old would put on.

She obviously read on some news website that Definitely Maybe was 25. Says it all. Just regurgitating pointless newspaper articles without adding anything.

    Dull, dull, dull!

That's about it. Tabloid tatter. ' I see that Kim Kardashian ..' . That kind of thing. No place on RTE 1. Perhaps 2FM or whatever.

    Are you sad about Brexit?

Does this question have to be asked to every foreign or English guest on RTE these days?

Maggie seems a bit obsessed with London. Regularly mentions that she lived there and seems to find the London angle in interviews.

Talking about the UK is to her, what JFK is to Tubridy.

    He sounds a bit shook

Any comments on your boy, Bill Clinton, Tubridy?

Had a good few oul side swipes at Trump of course, but nothing to say on Clinton or Epstein at all?

What ever about other people being racist, you are a bit selective in who you apply your standards to yourself.

Might be relevant to mention that the same group that were outside Google, that currently Tubridy is doing a hit piece on, were also protesting outside RTE a few weeks back. So RTE and Tubridy are not an impartial observer on this.

Is that bonkers, intruiging, or peculiar?

Just as he's ending the show he mutters, "and we didn't even get to mention Boris Johnson, that'll be for another day".

FFS. Thought we'd gotten away with listening to that.

Disturbing item about racism on the show this morning.

Hazel Chu, a Green Party councillor on Dublin City Council, described how she was harassed when she spoke out against hate speech. Although she is of Asian ancestry, she was born in Dublin and raised in Dublin and Kildare. Still, xenophobes at a protest in front of Google HQ condemned her as 'that migrant' and others on Twitter told her to go home etc. She also received a threatening phone call. Then a petition was created on Change.org demanding Chu's resignation because she was a racist, constantly belittling Irish people. Incidentally, photos of that Google protest show some people making Hitler salutes.

The brass neck of these far-right activists is amazing. And although they're only a tiny minority, their very existence is worrying nevertheless.

How many of you Irish listeners care about UK Politics and the Royal Family?

    Thought so. :D

There was another example of this kind of patronizing primary school teacher speak yesterday when he was giving his tuppence worth about the possible economic impact of Brexit:

He was going on about how "we need to mind each other".

A very strange comment that could only come from someone who is under no threat whatsoever from any possible recession.

Such an infantile take on the world. A deluded fella altogether.

The culmination of a privileged upbringing coupled with an even more comfortable and reassured status in life currently.

Zero financial issues allows an air of calm and notions of "kindness".

Delusional man child stealing a living is the term I prefer.
