I thought I heard something a year back (maybe on this thread!) about Iceland going into that Mountview shopping site which was to be redeveloped next to Sammon's Pub - maybe that was just a rumour

    Yeah I heard the same

Same in Navan(herself lives there) about going in the shopping centre

Seems to be a theme with Iceland and rumours

I would assume mr price would get less footfall there. But maybe the rent is a lot less. I think they do school uniforms now.

Iceland is being built in Mountview.

Mr. Price will regret their decision to move to the retail park.

That old 53 Degrees unit is huge. There are 2 (or is it 3?) floors that go way back. It even had an Insomnia coffee outlet in it at one stage. 53 Degrees gradually shrunk the amount of space it used for retail before giving up on it altogether.

I'd imagine they will be able to seriously expand their school uniforms business and communion wear when they move there. I think you could be right with 3 floors inside 53 Degrees North when they opened first.

Not quite giving up. They moved down beside DID and Inspiring Ideas.

I think ongarboy meant giving up on the large unit. Also, Inspiring Ideas is now closed so that's another unit to watch for a new tenant. Hopefully something more interesting than Mr. Price :D

    How do you know that?

To the best of my knowledge Mr Price has got nothing to do with the school uniforms. You can only purchase the uniforms at certain times at the till at the back of the store. I tried to buy a tie one evening at the tills at the front of the store and the staff couldnt sell it to me.
I think there was an arrangement made by an independent seller when it was stanleys and mr price would prefer they werent there.
The unit in the shopping centre is the smallest unit Mr price is currently operating from.

Oh I see. I have no cause to be buying school uniforms so I didn't know that.

The empty unit next to Romayo's in Clonsilla village now has a sign "medical centre to let". I guess that means no coffee shop in the village.

Hmm...according to Fingal Co Co planning ref,FW19A/0011, Mr. Price will be moving into the old 53 Degrees North unit (Unit 428) of Blanchardstown Retail Park (to the left of Lifestyle and TK Maxx). Pity - I'd have preferred a more quality retailer than a super sized pound shop!

I was over at Kylemore Road today and there was a large Mr. Price store near where I was going to. I know they're a discount store, but just because you're selling stuff cheap, it doesn't mean you have to look cheap. It was the tackiest looking sh*thole I've seen in a long time, and I can't imagine that the owners of Blanch, or the nearby tenants would be too happy with such a dump right on their doorstep. I'm hoping that any conditions of their move include some more tasteful branding.

I know this is not relating to new business opening but may lead to half of the unit being let out . Today M&S blanch asked their staff who would be interested in taking redundancy. The asked that who ever was interested to put their names down. A family member works in the store and judging by their opinions on the store itself, if redundancies are taken, there is not a hope in the store having enough staff to cover the entire store, the supermarket, the cafe of the second floor, never mind cover for 1 of the 2 floors. Supposedly staff are stretched.

With the new extension being built in the red mall, could this facilitate an M&S move to a smaller unit in the new extension?

While the scenario outlined is quite possible, consider that M & S staff are regularly "mature" (and experienced) and they may intend to lower the employment costs by recruiting younger and (dare I say it) less expensive personnel. Certainly not saying that that would in any way improve the store!

There are already too many empty units in the centre. Is it onerous leases, retail downturn, online competition or greedy increases in rentals to recoup the record outlay when the centre was flipped last time.

The jewellery place beside M&S is gone now too, Ernest Jones.

A fair few of the staff in M&S have been with the company for 20+ years, My friends parents work in the mary street store for 23 years. There a fair few who transferred to blanch when it opened. my family member has worked there 13 years, i wonder what the packages will be for people who have worked for them.

Planning permission gone in to open a pub in Mulhuddart - new one down the road in Parkside, not a rehash of Paidi Ogs

Is this the same one that was refused a while back? There were objections due to their smoking section backing onto houses and there was an issue with ownership of the site.

Don't know - planning map for Parkside is a mess due to so many layers of changes.

Frank Gleeson intends to knock Paidi Ogs and rebuild a much bigger building with a new pub too, as it happens. That's on appeal now after refusal.

Yeah, just had a look on the website. It's the same application again. The last time they were asked to resubmit with the smoking area taken out but they never responded so the application was deemed withdrawn.

There were loads of signatures on the objection letter from the residents for that one so I'd imagine it'll be the same this time. The legal issue regarding ownership must be resolved if they're applying again.

There's currently a euro type shop operating there, the notice is in the window, it looks v small to be a bar.

    Where's Parkside?

Mulhuddart village it's the building before the bridge into blakesrown on the right hand side

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 132 ✭✭avalidusername

If it's the unit I'm thinking of, it's the wide one diagonally across to the right from the post office/spar/bookies side. I think it's still a euro shop today, although it's a car parts place on google street view.

Note the beautiful clear blue sky when the google street car was going by in the heatwave last year!

Unit above says pool hall, and next door unit above is casino/card joint, wouldn't be at all surprised if there's connections between the applicants and the other units. Address of the applicant company is just a regular looking office building on Amiens St, similar to a P.O. Box address I think.

Yeah it's the Euro shop thats there now.

Am i right in saying that there are now two seperate applications on going for pubs in the village? Have to say the Eurostar shop is very small for a pub.

  • Registered Users Posts: 699 ✭✭✭LorelaiG

Yes there are and yes the Eurostar unit is very small for a pub IMO.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 dr25

Does anyone have any info on who is applying to build a pub at the Eurostar? I checked the planning application but can't find any other businesses under the name on the application. Just wondering if they own any other pubs to see what it might be like

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

Closing date for objections was yesterday and there are only 2 on the website but none from the residents who objected last time. The planning application states that they are applying for a smoking area at the back but the drawings don't show it and the only door to the back is labelled 'emergency exit'.
