Constant DSL dropping - since early April

    Hoping somebody here can help me out with this constant issue I have been having the past 4 months.
    My DSL is constantly dropping out, it can drop out at anytime, day or night, if its sunny or raining, windy or calm, doesn't seem to be any obvious issue that's causing it to happen.
    I have had several technicians out to look at the problem, each states a different problem each time, seem to be getting nowhere!
    The current set-up is as follows;
    One single line, pole to house, then goes directly to the only phone point in the house. Its the one with the built in splitter/filter, DSL on the left and Phone on the right.
    From this point, the router is right next to it and a wireless phone handset and base station.
    There are no other points in the house as of this moment.
    This is a brief overview of who has been out and what has been done so far, dates are as accurate as I can remember.
    April - I had made several calls over a week to broadband tech support to try and figure out what was happening, eventually got a technician sent out to look at the issue.
    Technician #1; Mid April
    Replaced the main line in the house, said house wasn't wired for broadband and couldn't locate the main junction point. He ran a new connection from where the line comes onto the house, ran it down along the facia and along the side of the house to just outside the kitchen. This then goes into a weatherproof box and comes out and goes through a vent into the house to the main phone point.
    The actual phone stopped working - no calls could be made or received, but Internet worked fine for a few days, then started to drop the DSL again.
    As the main phone point had been moved closer to one end of the house, the Wifi range had been affected to the bottom end of the house, so I had to invest in TPLinks and Wifi repeaters.
    Technician #2; A week later
    Came up, got the phone back working, ran some tests on the line, then said everything was fine. DSL was working and then a few days later it was back to the same constant dropping issue.
    Technician #3; Mid May
    Ran tests on line, indicated that the line had faults and I should get the initial technician back out to sort the issue. DSL was still constantly going off, calls to the broadband support said about faults on the lines when I rang up also (The automated check). A lot more calls were made, all asking the same questions, having to explain the situation every time I rang up, wasn't getting anywhere and organised for another technician to come out.
    Technician #4; July
    Again, done more tests on the line, got the DSL to work for a few minutes then said it was the handset that was causing the fault. Said he would order a new handset to be sent out - these haven't been received yet.
    After he had left, the DSL dropped (as usual) so I decided to take the phone/handset out of the equation - unplugged the base station, unplugged it from the phone point and wait for the internet to work again - - - nothing! Removing the phone entirely had no effect on the stability of the DSL connection.
    Back on to tech support when I noticed something strange. Within 20 seconds of making the call, the DSL would flash and the internet would come on and stay stable for a few minutes (or would stay stable for the duration of the phone call). I mentioned that to the tech support, and 1 hour and 25mins later, his solution was to send another technician out.
    Technician #5 Mid July
    Came out, done the usual line test, was getting a fault, plugged in his test equipment and went off to do tests down the road. Came back and said he had swapped out some wires that had got damaged and sure enough the DSL was stable while he was there. About an hour later, DSL had dropped again - back onto tech support.
    The next day, the same technician came back out, ran some more tests, then determined that the fault was with the faceplate on the phone point. He replaced that and DSL was back on again....you guessed it, was gone again within an hour of him leaving.
    So to recap,
    New main phone line to house - Still dropping DSL
    Router replaced with newer Eircom model - Still dropping DSL
    Suggestion of phone causing problem - Still dropping DSL after phone eliminated
    Wires swapped out down the road - Still dropping DSL
    Phone point replaced - Still dropping DSL
    Our neighbours are also with eircom, on the same lines as us and they don't seem to have any problems, and there less than 50 meters away. Also, their speed is higher, 5mb versus the 1.5mb max I am getting. Obviously 1.5mb isn't much good for more than 1 internet user - play a game or watch netflix and its takes all the bandwidth, so even loading facebook on another device take ages.
    I need to get this sorted once and for all, so I await your help....
     
    P.S I have had to make a phone call to get DSL to come back on to post this!

    Yes, forgot to mention that. Router was also blamed for it dropping, Technician #4 swapped it for a new one of the same model (black with twin antenna, zyxel) - was still dropping DSL. 

    Swapped that one with a router known to be fine, different make and still the same dropping issue.

    I've had pretty much constant internet all evening - although the phone needed to be left off the hook to achieve this, speeds were coming in about 2mb

    Phone call = resync says there's still a copper fault. Login to your modem and post your line stats("xdsl statistics").

    Thats not quite what I was looking for, but it does show the link dropping. Unfortunately its the exchange side that knows WHY it dropped.

    I've had pretty much constant internet all evening - although the phone needed to be left off the hook to achieve this, speeds were coming in about 2mb

    Rang up on Thursday morning before you had posted this response, supposedly we are being dealt with by the "RAPID RESPONSE TEAM"

    Rang again on Friday lunchtime, was told that the "RAPID RESPONSE TEAM" would be out at 4.30 at the latest.

    Its now Monday, DSL is still dropping and still no sign of the "RAPID RESPONSE TEAM"

    Here is a quick video on how I get internet back  when it drops. Listen carefully and you can here ALOT of noise on the line.


    Scratch that, a 90mb video is taking forever to upload

    Scratch that, DSL keeps dropping out every few minutes, so youtube upload has to restart

    Ill upload it via my mobile, at least that has stable connection

    Engineer finally arrived yesterday, done some line tests, rewired the socket and got the speed upped to 2.5mb. Worked fine most of the evening, then when we got up this morning, no DSL! Its gone off a few times today already, speed is also down to 965kb so frustratingly slow when it is on.

    Mentioned the DSL coming back on when the phone was used, he couldn't understand why it was doing that. Stumped.

    Got back onto tech support, another engineer to come out Monday....yawn

    Just a quick update on this,

    Technician was out on Thursday, replaced some wires coming up the road and to the house and seems to have sorted the problem. Speed is up to around 4mb and DSL has been stable now since Thursday evening.

    Engineer finally arrived yesterday, done some line tests, rewired the socket and got the speed upped to 2.5mb. Worked fine most of the evening, then when we got up this morning, no DSL! Its gone off a few times today already, speed is also down to 965kb so frustratingly slow when it is on.

    Mentioned the DSL coming back on when the phone was used, he couldn't understand why it was doing that. Stumped.

    Got back onto tech support, another engineer to come out Monday....yawn

    yes, back to the usual constant dropping of dsl, dreadfully slow connection.

    Sounds like somebody scrunching up a crisp bag when you lift the phone theres that much noise

    Hoping somebody here can help me out with this constant issue I have been having the past 4 months.
    My DSL is constantly dropping out, it can drop out at anytime, day or night, if its sunny or raining, windy or calm, doesn't seem to be any obvious issue that's causing it to happen.
    I have had several technicians out to look at the problem, each states a different problem each time, seem to be getting nowhere!
    The current set-up is as follows;
    One single line, pole to house, then goes directly to the only phone point in the house. Its the one with the built in splitter/filter, DSL on the left and Phone on the right.
    From this point, the router is right next to it and a wireless phone handset and base station.
    There are no other points in the house as of this moment.
    This is a brief overview of who has been out and what has been done so far, dates are as accurate as I can remember.
    April - I had made several calls over a week to broadband tech support to try and figure out what was happening, eventually got a technician sent out to look at the issue.
    Technician #1; Mid April
    Replaced the main line in the house, said house wasn't wired for broadband and couldn't locate the main junction point. He ran a new connection from where the line comes onto the house, ran it down along the facia and along the side of the house to just outside the kitchen. This then goes into a weatherproof box and comes out and goes through a vent into the house to the main phone point.
    The actual phone stopped working - no calls could be made or received, but Internet worked fine for a few days, then started to drop the DSL again.
    As the main phone point had been moved closer to one end of the house, the Wifi range had been affected to the bottom end of the house, so I had to invest in TPLinks and Wifi repeaters.
    Technician #2; A week later
    Came up, got the phone back working, ran some tests on the line, then said everything was fine. DSL was working and then a few days later it was back to the same constant dropping issue.
    Technician #3; Mid May
    Ran tests on line, indicated that the line had faults and I should get the initial technician back out to sort the issue. DSL was still constantly going off, calls to the broadband support said about faults on the lines when I rang up also (The automated check). A lot more calls were made, all asking the same questions, having to explain the situation every time I rang up, wasn't getting anywhere and organised for another technician to come out.
    Technician #4; July
    Again, done more tests on the line, got the DSL to work for a few minutes then said it was the handset that was causing the fault. Said he would order a new handset to be sent out - these haven't been received yet.
    After he had left, the DSL dropped (as usual) so I decided to take the phone/handset out of the equation - unplugged the base station, unplugged it from the phone point and wait for the internet to work again - - - nothing! Removing the phone entirely had no effect on the stability of the DSL connection.
    Back on to tech support when I noticed something strange. Within 20 seconds of making the call, the DSL would flash and the internet would come on and stay stable for a few minutes (or would stay stable for the duration of the phone call). I mentioned that to the tech support, and 1 hour and 25mins later, his solution was to send another technician out.
    Technician #5 Mid July
    Came out, done the usual line test, was getting a fault, plugged in his test equipment and went off to do tests down the road. Came back and said he had swapped out some wires that had got damaged and sure enough the DSL was stable while he was there. About an hour later, DSL had dropped again - back onto tech support.
    The next day, the same technician came back out, ran some more tests, then determined that the fault was with the faceplate on the phone point. He replaced that and DSL was back on again....you guessed it, was gone again within an hour of him leaving.
    So to recap,
    New main phone line to house - Still dropping DSL
    Router replaced with newer Eircom model - Still dropping DSL
    Suggestion of phone causing problem - Still dropping DSL after phone eliminated
    Wires swapped out down the road - Still dropping DSL
    Phone point replaced - Still dropping DSL
    Our neighbours are also with eircom, on the same lines as us and they don't seem to have any problems, and there less than 50 meters away. Also, their speed is higher, 5mb versus the 1.5mb max I am getting. Obviously 1.5mb isn't much good for more than 1 internet user - play a game or watch netflix and its takes all the bandwidth, so even loading facebook on another device take ages.
    I need to get this sorted once and for all, so I await your help....
     
    P.S I have had to make a phone call to get DSL to come back on to post this!
    same here, every year the same. 2 miles outside the town
    due 3rd tech in under 7 weeks, no reply to last open case, just closed it down unresolved
    talking to retired eircom guys, its often the quality of the line itself, half mine is 40 years old or so with a paper core
    it can jump a small break but the wind seems to pull it too far.
    we need a mile of new line with proper capacity for all on it. 
    seems to be shared half the time
    very poor form from eir, wont even do call backs now, they expect u to call in fault, hang up then use ur mobile to call back and take another 10 mins
    it there was any other alternative like mobile id be gone years ago, not to mind having to pay line rental for a phone line we dont want, all we need is reasonable broadband to function in the modern world and stream the odd movie etc.

    I've been experiencing the same issues here as well. We had an Eir engineer out the week after christmas who insisted the issue was related to the speed being too high on the line. He dropped in down a bit but it is happening again. The connection dropped three hours ago, accompanied by a sluggish connection when it returned. I'm not far from the exchange either, we have a supposedly brand new fiber network in a newly built estate. 

    This has only been happening the last number of months so something must have changed somewhere that is causing this to happen. I'll be interested to see if/how Eir resolve your issue, as they've given us a variety of excuses each time we get in contact and nothing has resolved the problem.

    Thanks for your reply. I was already in contact over the phone with your technical support team since this issue cropped up again. We have just received a new modem/router (F2000 model) as this has been identified as a potential root cause for the issue we've been experiencing. We were told when we last renewed our contract we should have received this modem as the F1000 was deemed out of date and not intended for use beyond the initial two years. We will monitor our progress with the new modem/router and if we continue to experience issues we will contact eir technical support again.
