    Hi all,

My partner is moving to Ireland from the UK in a few months. He's been working full time over there and should have little trouble getting a job over here in his area. Just in case though, would he be able to apply for Job Seekers' Allowance upon arrival? It probably won't come to that but as he's been living within the Common Travel Area for the last few years, can he avail of JSA if he needs to?

    Thanks.

Its highly unlikely that he would satisfy habitual residence having just arrived in the country. What he can do is if he claims jobseekers benefit in the UK prior to coming to Ireland then he can transfer his benefit claim for 3 months approx while he is looking for work.

I was in this position in 2011 when I moved over, basic answer is no

Worked for 18 years and paid in UK, moved here to get married and asked if I was entitled to any benefit, I was told I needed to have worked for one week here and paid a weeks prsi before I could claim, happily I had work secured within 4 weeks of moving so didn't affect me

    System is a joke

Why would you think that the National Insurance you paid in the UK would Benefit you in the Rep of Ireland?

OP even if he fulfilled the Habitual Residence Condition he would then be means tested against your wages.
