Fuelling for Ultra Running

    Has anyone got any good links to informative articles/sites/whatever (or even any advice of your own to share) on eating for long distance running?

    That's for before, during and after the run.

    A few start points...

    Barry Murray's site (Irish interanional ultra runner and professional sports nutritionist) would be a source of some interesting articles.

    Google "fat Adaptation" and "Tim Noakes" to find tons and tons of material to read/view.

    The key points about nutrtion for ultras is that you should be running at fat burning pace. Therefore having a highly developed fat burning engine is hugely benificial. This is something that you should be deliberately incorporating as part of your training (and like all training it takes months of work to reap the benifits). To do it right its a whole lifestyle dietary change.

    It also makes pre and mid training nutrition trivially easy. The best thing to eat is nothing. LSRs in particular should be run on empty, with as large a gap as possible after your last meal. Fueling with sugars/carbs before or during training runs will be counter-productive.
