I was deciding between the Eagle f1s and the ultra vorti. I eventually went with the f1s and I've been happy with them thus far. When i did buy them, i found out on here that the sidewalls weren't tough but they have been unbelievable in the wet so far

Can't see those in camskills in the size I need.

Another to add to the list is Bridgestones Potenzas, I just remembered I had those on the gtv and they were great.

The vortis are immense in the wet had them on the 330i and even on heavy downpour if you were heavy on the foot they gripped in all conditions.

F1's are really only a balls out performance tyre.

If you want wet weather grip and less road noise vortis sessanta or uniroyal rainsport 3 are all cheaper and wear alot better.

RS3 also have softer sidewalls which = More comfort.

It's less road noise I'm after, the current Maxiumus or whatever variant of them are brutal for road noise.

Well the Focus was snapped up about 20 minutes after it was put up for sale today, and the C5 has me feeling very giddy driving it. I love it. €80 to fill it though? Fcuk me, that took me by surprise! :eek:

I know that none of ye have ever seen a C5 before, so I'll be sure to take a few pictures of it. :P I am looking forward to seeing if it looks any better with the bigger wheels. Fingers crossed!



Yer man said that he can't NCT it for me. He said he'll book it in when he can and we can arrange a date, but as it's not due til November, he can't book it yet. But he did give me a written receipt stating the work that had been done to the car, and that they would guarantee an NCT until November 2017.

The work done to it, according to the receipt, was; New timing belt, Water Pump, 2 gearbox seals, 2 front brake discs and pads, full service. If I have a warranty issue, I'll be curious to see how it plays out, but I have to say, my entire experience with Pat Coby at Coby Motors in Cherry Orchard Industrial Estate has been very, very good. I've found him excellent to deal with and I felt it showed great confidence in his stock by letting me bring it to Atlas for a check over before paying anything.

(I wrote the address above just as an aid for anyone who may google or boards search in future). My experience, so far, has been entirely positive.

THAT SAID.. It's off to my own mechanic tomorrow to get some verification that the work stated has actually been done on the car. I could be getting told porkies, but I'll know for sure tomorrow.


Ultimately though, after a smooth drive home and a bit of messing around the town, I have a fairly big smile on my face.

The missus crashed her car on the way home from work earlier. Skid straight into a wall, turned a bit, hit the accelerator, and went straight into the opposite wall. 5pm and nothing behind her and nothing oncoming. Some fright she got. Me too, not the call I was expecting.

What did you get it for in the end ?

I hear they have very good suspension since it's not the traditional type.

Congrats, the OH and I have both previously owned C5s, albeit petrol hatches, very comfy.

Yer man is talking bollox by the way, you can nct a car at any time since the rules changed a few months ago.

I think the super-duper suspension is only on really high end versions of it and not the joe soap versions? I think theres a spec level called 'Exclusiv' and it has the hydro-pneumatic suspension? But I could be wrong.

It is smooth on the road, but I'm not sure.. I'd be kinda hoping it has got it, just so i can say i have it, but kinda hoping it doesn't don't have it, so I can avoid the expense of when something goes wrong with it and it needs repairing. :P



I bought the car for 8,500. I wanted it, going in, for 8,200 (10% off the asking) and wasn't prepared to go any higher than that, but when I seen the list of issues that Atlas gave me, and then Coby agreed to fix everything on the spot, I felt a price tag of 8,500 was fair, all things considered.

Do it now get 12 months from day it's done. Wait till 3 months before due then that's when nct will be valid until.

Are you saying if I do it now, I get 12 months, but if i do it within 3 months of it being due, i get the 24 months from the due date?

So are you of the opinion that he's being genuine, or that he's messing me about?


EDIT: Sorry, it's less than 10 years old, so i get 24 months either way, but if i do it now I don't qualify for early testing and the date done is the date it's valid until, whereas is i do it in september its valid for 27 months, effectively?

Mine and the ohs (both 2003) had the hydro suspension which you could adjust, it failed on my car, and was a right fooker to drive. It was a pleasure when it worked though

Nope complete bollox, go onto the nct site, put in your reg, and you can book an nct right now.

I did it for the OHs merc which is due an nct in Jan last week.

They changed the rules about six months ago, but my mechanic didn't know last week, so maybe it's ignorance on your sales guys part

Might be an idea to book it in and see how it gets on, before you get your mechanic to look at it, in case there are any issues.

Today I valued my GoodYears on both cars oh so much. Honestly in the rain today in Dublin it was super reassuring to drive with new/good rubber all round.

Yes, exactly, did you get any warranty from Coby?

But iirc it's due on Nov. 8th. which is less than three months from now.

It's Aug 8th to Sept 8th is one month, Sept 8th to Oct 8th is two months, Oct 8th to Nov. 8th is three months, so you are currently within the three month window to get a 27 month cert, so why is he not doing it?

3 month engine and gearbox. He said they can't sell a car without such a warranty once they're a registered dealer.

I doubt I'll have much hassle with either, but I do feel confident they're not a trickster group (although any warranty issues will quickly tell, as will my mechanic, tomorrow).

Missed that! He really should just do it as dealers can get next day NCT's AFAIK.

Arrived at home at 11:30 last night from work. I'm 99% sure that the big field next to tesco here had no circus in it. Going to work today just after lunch time and Duffy's were there fully set up.

On the way home again tonight and their convoy passed me on the road. At least 50 or 60 trucks, vans and mobile homes/gigantic campers. How these lads do it is beyond me. God help anyone driving in the Limerick road from the Newcastle west direction tonight. They circus lads aren't exactly aitin road, the weather is crap and the convoy is huge!

Suits me down the ground - I rarely havea clue what's going on in Dublin; blindly following a satnav and swearing about not knowing which lane I'm supposed to be in.
